Pro:
1. free wifi - good enough for email / chat apps. video streaming can only probably support 240/360p (I tried youtube)
2. inflight shopping for food and drinks are relatively "cheap" - love the Japanese selections
3. if you travel with kids, 6yr and under are almost free. You only pay taxes which is about 10% of the adult ticket. They also get a seat and free seat selections if you sit with your kids. A very affordable way for a family to visit Japan.
Con:
1. absolutely no changes after 24hrs. no changes, no refund, not even if you want to pay for the changes. (If you cancel your flight, u could get a refund on the taxes)
2. Everything has a fee, even water. ($2 a bottle)
3. flight delays. both of my flights had about 20-30mins of delay for departure.
4. no entertainment screen, you gotta bring your own ipads/phones
Others:
They weight all of your carry-on together. So if you have 4 people, your total allowance for free carry-on would be 60lbs. (you dont have to seperate them into like 4 x 15lbs)
They sometimes add your backpack into the weight though. (depends on the person)
That one includes two check in bags and one carry on.
ZipAir has a really really minimal carry on and personal bag allowed and you have to pay extra to be able to check in and carry more weight into the cabin. That Singapore Airline deal also included a meal. ZipAir does not.
I took this deal to fly to Japan the 2nd half of February and it ended up being a shopping trip that I paid for a check in bag on the way back (bought a medium luggage in Don Quixote). The in flight cost of each thing you buy for food is actually really decently priced, but the extra luggage fees will get you. I ended up probably spending as much or more than the Singapore deal, so that is the way to go if people are not traveling light.

I suppose if you need all that luggage (if you're moving there?) then the Singapore deal.
i paid an extra $69/one way for 70lb check-in luggage as our family of 3 will plan to do ALOT of shopping.

Yeah. Just making people aware that ZipAir is a low cost flight so you must travel light. it's not described in the deal post and some people may be surprised.

How much did they end up getting you for on the check bag?
I imagine I might do the same fly there light and come back with some items. Then determine if it cost more for a check bag or to ship it.

I think it was between $55 to $75 in price for a check in bag. by weight (I had the medium sized luggage). You don't want to ship if you got a lot of items. they also get you in the VAT tax. I flew in 2nd half of February and bought lots of retro gaming stuff plus a Japanese Telescope (Takahashi Petzval). For the price I got the scope in Japan, I was ahead by thousands since the price here in USA is almost twice the amount. Even with the VAT tax (or the extra weight I paid for the flight back), I would still be so much more ahead. I got into Customs on my arrival but they didn't question what I carried with me so I didnt' really pay VAT tax for my Takahashi
If you plan on traveling for around just a week, it's definitely doable to just get a light small luggage carry on plus a personal item (small backpack). they weigh the carry on in LAX. but they weigh BOTH on the flight back. YMMV on the counter when you check in/pick up ticket. Got me thinking about food from Japan just talking about all of this. I miss the cheap 97 cent per dish sushi I had at KURA in Japan. Exchange rates are still great with the Yen against the Dollar.

In fairness to ZipAir, the overweight luggage and overage fees seemed to be a common enough practice with other Japanese airlines - specifically, budget airlines. We took several other domestic flights to hop between islands, and they also enforced the weight policy as well...though, some airlines were more forgiving than others (thanks, Peach Aviation
Another thing to note: ZipAir's self check-in machines at Narita airport were pointless as they all required you to still queue up at the traditional check-in lines. Expect to get to NRT a solid 2 hours before your flight (if not earlier), because they check-in early and close kiosks promptly! Factors which are out of your control - such as language barrier / translation time, yours/others luggage shenanigans, and overall inconsistent and check-in protocol customer-by-customer - really necessitates one to go early to avoid the inevitable headache.
I mean, it would be a westener 6th grader. This is a Japanese airline and Japanese businesses don't exactly know or choose the best international naming schemes (ex. Nintendo Wii). With that said, compare the service and flight crew in ZipAir to something else like American Airlines or United. It would be night and day. ZipAir uses the same crews for Japan Airlines (being owned by it). But you do you
