You need to stay on Google FI network for 120 days which would cost around approx $ 100 additional for 120 day service ) but you do not need to keep the SIM inserted in S23 . As soon as the Google FI detects the offer is activated you can remove the Google FI App and remove the Google FI Physical Sim Card and use the phone with any carrier either phyiscal or esmim.
Prices for the various models ( The below prices will only show up if you are an existing member and hence you may not see the same prices if u are a new user ) . You can message me for my referral code if you require which gives $ 20 credit in the first bill

Then I was looking at the newer models S23+, S23Ultra, S22+... and I realized that there is no upgrade to be had- it's not like I'm running software that overloads the cpu/ mem. The S23+ or ultra are about the same size as the S21+ all are 5G and there is nothing else that would make a difference with my usage. Also I have observed that the price diff from the S21+ to the S22+, S23+ (or ultra) is quite significant.
In conclusion, I think my best bet is to find a MINT or open box S21+ and then swappa my slightly beat up S21+. My outlay would be less that $150. Newer or almost new phone. All of the features. Whats the downside?

Which is part of the question on whether I should "upgrade".
