More selection this time. Keep an eye out for 1.75 vs 2.85/3mm diameters.

For those that have printers that use 2.85mm / 3mm filament by default (Ultimaker, BCN3D, and LulzBot), Polymaker PA6-GF is a good price for its tensile strength and high-temperature applications:
Note that PA6-GF is a Nylon/glass-fiber blend. Nylon absorbs moisture, while glass fiber is even more abrasive than carbon fiber - there would be some wear of the metal heartbreak and the extruder gear barbs.
An investment in hardened nozzles and a dry box- near-DIY, in order to fit the on-sale 3KG spool (Dia: 250, width: 117.2±2mm)- comes with the territory, along with a prepped Garolite/G10 or Borosilicate Glass/PVA-glue build plate.

Those that would be interested in retrofitting (Creality) printers to 2.85mm filaments, there are a few Buy-vs-Make choices:
------
EDIT: Gave the wrong stepper motor type- that round LDO pancake won't work- need around a 20mm motor shaft, 5mm diameter, with a flat (to use with the gear in the M4 hardware kit). Here's a high-temp pancake 4220 that should work:
I was thinking of this bowden extruder as a backup, since this has the motor drive the Bondtech gears directly, more assurance the dual gears will fit. But this won't be direct-drive: https://www.printables.com/model/...r-extruder
------
Matterhackers site can sort toolhead parts by filament. At least, it has the make/model info to chase down further google-ing:
The main challenge is finding/designing a toolhead adapter to fit your printer, with a matching printer config change-list for offsets, feed steps, PID, thermistor, etc. But at least there's a list of supported hotends for DIY (see below).
DIY (unverified total solution)
The Voron M4 was originally a Bowden extruder, I think, but this one makes it a decent direct-drive mount for Ender 3: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4901100
If it all fits, the advantage is a bolt-on, low-cost, high-ratio (finer feed control of the larger filament) gearing, with one of the best dual-gear sets and super-short bowden path to your choice of hotend.

Thanks for this.
I'd rep you but SD is broken for me at the moment. ☹

Those wanting to try the material first can get the "Sample Box 3":

This YT tester showed PA6-GF (and PA6-CF, not on this sale) maintained form to 200 degrees C:

The Sprite Pro is Creality's latest-not-the-greatest direct-drive has a 2.85mm version. There have been issues with this model:

The Voron M4 was originally a Bowden extruder, I think, but this one makes it a decent direct-drive mount for Ender 3:
https://www.thingiverse
... then replace one of the halves with this improved filament channel:
https://www.printables.
.. and then the trick is if the Bondtech 2.85 gear works in the M4:
https://www.3djake.com/bondtech/d...kit-285-mm
Just need to drill the printed part's filament path a bit (before installing the Bondtech gears). Not sure this is the right clearance size (some examples):

There are a few (1.75mm) M4 parts kits out there. This one has a steel main pulley. I have this, it's a decent kit:

Pancake motor (H-rated temp), or just use the old stepper:

If it all fits, the advantage is a bolt-on, low-cost, high-ratio (finer feed control of the larger filament) gearing, with one of the best dual-gear sets and super-short bowden path to your choice of hotend.
Probably a good thing with all the filament I've been collecting.
