OP here, sorry for the repost and if the link looked weird. No affiliate I just don't know what I'm doing . I have been tracking M1 max prices for about 1-2 months and my sweet spot was 2100-2300 for 32/64gb ram / 1TB+ on a 16 inch. This ticked all the boxes. I'm sure when the M3 pro/max comes out it'll blow this out of the water, but that's likely 6 months away, and I wasn't planning to spend $3700+ on a machine.

I got mine today, it was brand new and AppleCare was automatically registered when it was still being shipped.

A tip if anyone is transferring over an old Mac, because I struggled with this today for a while: get a thunderbolt 3 cable, connect the new and old Mac. Set your old Mac to target disk mode and then turn on Migration Assistant on your new Mac and do "transfer from a Mac". If you run Migration Assistant on the old mac, it'll transfer over wifi and take a full day. Transferring over thunderbolt took me an hour.

VSCode requirements:
1.6 GHz or faster processor
1 GB of RAM
It's not so much the editor or lines of code but instead running the whole development environment locally (ie db, web server, often some caching services like redis, some build sytems for frontend code, etc). It balloons up fairly quickly. As I said though, this really varies by the job/project.

Also I'd hate to experience VS Code on the minimum requirements as I've got a bunch of plugins running and waiting on my computer is not something I'm at all interested in. So minimum requirements are not very relevant in my opinion Smilie.

I purchased one of these and noticed that the warranty expires in Jan 2024 because the purchase date is wrong. Been on the phone with Apple 3 times so far for like an hour each time to update the purchase date and they asked for invoices/receipts from Adorama and each time they said they updated it in their system, but it's not being updated when I check mysupport.apple.com or under the device settings.

Anyone found a way to fix this?

Call Apple. Tell Apple what you told us. Get a supervisor on the line.

Apple's refurb is the best in the business and nothing to be concerned with, but yes, fully fair point on the Microcenter availability; no solution on that one. Frown

Yes, fully aware the (minor) performance difference. Note the 50%+ upcharge. I don't think it's worth it; opinions may vary.

Ayye man sorry to hear that. I'd be surprised if Apple refuses to reset the warranty date. Starting to feel a bit sketchy all the way around. I almost bought this, but am glad I didn't. Wonder how this will turn out..
