Agree, I used to only get tires at Costco but recently switched to Discount. Costco tends to be very slow when it comes to rotations and often gets behind with appointments. In my area rotations usually take at least an hour, while Discount has you in and out in under 30 minutes.
Pro-tip: If you have a 'Discount Tire' locally, they will match the price to the penny. I prefer Discount Tire, as there are multiple in my City, they are faster and more friendly.
Didn't Costco used to offer 150 off Michelin's now I'm seeing only 100 off. Am I going crazy?

For reference, I got the last Michelin deal back in April details below:

MICHELIN CROSSCLIMATE2 225/50R18

ALL WEATHER TIRE
Item # 1516994
$239.99
Quantity 4

Subtotal

$ 1,066.88
Discount on Order

$ 200.00
Shipping & Handling

$ 0.00
Estimated Tax

$ 71.17
Total

$ 938.05

This was with installation included. Was able to get the tires delivered to Costco and installed 1.5 weeks later.

Installation went smoothly EXCEPT one tire was literally flat upon picking up my car. Had to tell them and they were confused as to how that happened (like whoever installed literally didn't pump it). This along with other things to inspect upon pickup.

Edit:
Seeing the total price for the same tires now at Total $949.75 after discount and taxes. So pretty much the same. I don't think it'd get any better in a week or so

I looked at the tires (Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4) I purchased about 8 months ago.

They were $230.99x4, installation was waived then, and it was $70 Michelin discount.

This time, they are $230.99x4, installation is waived now, and $100 Michelin discount.

Slightly better at $30 extra discount this time, but nothing that breaks the bank.

How were you all able to get installation waived before Costco switched to the free installation model this month?

Used to be $150 off, but you'll add $80 on installation cost ($20/tire).

Now, it's $50 off or $100 off, depending on the total price, but installation cost included.

It's roughly a $30 savings for those who purchase tires for $900+.

That's regional. Around here the regional place is Town Fair. They will PM, but I find the tire market is a lot like mattresses - many places just don't carry or have available all the various models, even if there are 2 tires that are very comparable (if not the exact same except for a name whose purpose is just to make price matching impossible). Last time I tried to have them PM, they will PM the tire price but add in all sorts of misc shit to more than make up for the price difference.

I've bought tires from Costco twice, same store, and it's been smooth each time. Buy the tires, schedule the appt, and show up. Even rotations have gone very easily. Plus if you have Executive and/or the CC, you can get up to 4% back as well. Just last week I was able to schedule a rotation on Thursday for first thing Saturday AM, and it took less than 30 minutes for them to do the job and call me, while I was shopping.

I tried to do an OTD price comparison last time I bought tires, as the purchase was over $1k. By the time you make the regional tire place (again for me Town Fair) and the Costco offers as similar as possible (e.g. regional place has 2 wheel alignment for free, Costco doesn't do alignments at all; regional place has far shorter hazard protection than Costco, etc), Costco comes out ahead especially if you take into account the ~ $40-50 you'd get from the cash back.

That said, absolutely shop around, just make sure you're comparing apples with apples. For those purchases, I'd get the tires installed at Costco and then go to Town Fair to do the alignment, and it still came out cheaper than going to Town Fair direct.

Is this a corporate policy? I often find these policies oscillate between more $$ off, but you pay for install, to "installation included" but you get a lower discount. Ultimately you only care about OTD price, who cares if they charge you for install or give you a lower discount on the tires themselves)
