FYI this has a 500 series Z-Wave module in it (ZW2 in the model number).

The 700 series Z-Wave modules (ZW3) aren't fully or officially compatible with the Assure 2 locks yet (except for maybe the YRD450 for some reason).
I have a key version but haven't carried a key around for years. I'm actually looking to replace it with a key-free version since that would eliminate the risk of someone picking the key lock.

These locks do a good job of warning you when the battery is low so you have plenty of time to change it. You can also use a 9V battery to charge it up to enter a code if needed.

Either way, good deal on this lock!
If you're burning through batteries that fast it's most likely an issue with a "weak" z-wave mesh. Look at putting some/a z-wave repeaters between your hub and the lock and it should drastically improve battery life. I have a repeater sitting right next to mine and am going on month four with batteries around 60%. We also go through that door probably 8 times a day also locking/unlocking each time. So those batteries are turning that deadbolt a lot.

The reason your WiFi one works better is like you said, it's got a powered repeater basically sitting on top of the lock.

This is a good price for a zwave lock. I have had good luck with Yale Real Living locks that use the same zwave modules. Having a keyway is a must IMO as at some point that battery will die.

Kwikset z-wave lock sells on Amazon for $120. It's not as nice looking as this, though. I wish I had another door to justify replacing my existing Yale smart lock with this

Awesome, I've been waiting for another zwave Yale lock sale. The older models haven't gone on sale in a few years since I got them, and I want to install a couple more for the rest of my outer doors.

One of my biggest complaint is that I don't get timely battery warnings.

Which zwave does it use?

It also doesn't include the Z-wave module.

I have only found the Z-wave versions of this lock on Amazon and on Yale's website. All other places I've checked only have the Bluetooth or wi-fi versions.

You can still add a Z-wave module, but if you don't already have one, then that's another potential hundred bucks.

EDIT: And it seems like the Z-wave modules for the Assure 2 series of locks are different than the modules from the older locks.

Can this be used just as a keypad entry without connecting to a hub?

I have had this lock for about 5 months now and I can tell you it burns batteries like crazy. It does a good job of letting you know ahead of time, but I have to replace the batteries in this about every 3 weeks. I also have the nest x yale lock with nest connect and in my opinion it's a way better option. I have had the nest one for probably 4 years and very rarely change the batteries. The nest connect plugs in the wall and Im guessing that is why the batteries on the lock do better because the Wi-Fi is through the nest connect powered by the wall instead of the lock using batteries to search for the signal?

Save your money and buy the nest x yale lock, my honest opinion.
