One quick search and you'll find that they sell additional batteries. The black end piece you see in the pictures is actually the end piece of the battery.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look like you can charge a battery without it being plugged into the vac, which would have been a nice addition.
As for the vac itself: For the size, I wouldn't expect much suction power.
It might be good for crumbs and dust, but getting pet hair out of your car's upholstery and carpet is probably an exaggeration.
If you need a vac primarily for auto detailing, a shop vac with crevice attachments is the way to go. Walmart occasionally has them on sale for around this price.
It may not last long, but you can also dampen these small springs by wrapping some of the coils in electrical tape.
Replacement battery is $60.
The high pitched whine when the vacuum runs is unbearable.
Replaced with a Dirt-Devil handheld vacuum. Let's see how that one does.

Here's my OP:
LOL that's just going to be my excuse for everything now to prevent myself from buying things I don't need haha
That said, I sometimes have a strong feeling that something will break and feel like gambling with an extended warranty. Yeah, that's the word, gambling, for what the extended warranty actually is.
Did you fully clean the filter? You might want to double check.
Here's Shark's 40 sec video on changing the filter (note that I had to modify the url as SD blocks YouTube vids):

OR - just search YouTube for "How to maintain the Shark ION W1 Cordless Handheld Vac" and look for the 40 sec video by Shark Home
