This is like steering clear (pun intended) of a modern Toyota because they had a couple engines with issues years ago.
The Onkyo hdmi board issue was sorted out long ago.

I agree with this though it should be pointed out Onkyo didn't really help all the affected customers out when this happened. Certain customers yes.
Since then they have fixed it. I bought the 646 after that fiasco and it's been perfect for years now.
Are u talking about the lx305, because it's basically identical to this Onkyo. You can even control either of those AVR's with the other "brand's" remote.

I highly doubt anyone is having failed HDMi boards from Onkyo receivers that's been released last few years. If so I'd love to see proof.
Pioneer Elite VSX 305. It has Dirac as well which is why I got it. But just not happy with the performance. I also have to turn it more than halfway up, which maybe could be related to the speakers but there's obviously enough power coming for bookshelf L/R (decent size maybe 18") center )similar size to the L/R speakers, they're all 6ohms. The four surround are obviously smaller, but. It tiny cubes and I have to Onkyo Atmos add ONS for the front. I got the pioneer because my HDMI ports started going after maybe two years. I don't know if their qc has gotten better, but apparently for several years they were known for having problems with their daughter boards. Pissed me off too because I specifically for the rz series because of the higher end components. Solid Japanese caps etc.
Your pioneer lx305 and this Onkyo are basically the same receiver. Outside appearances and GUI being the differences.
