You are missing my point. Water binding is only one of the many reasons why we use HA in skincare. Less than 1% is proven to be sufficient for HA to work. Adding more by weight would significantly change the pH, and to counter that we would have to add more buffer, which in this case I believe would be sodium hydroxide. Annnnd guess what, that is going to lower the concentration of the HA. Kinda defeats the purpose, eh? Furthermore, it would change the ionic content of the product and impact the solubilities of other compounds. It's not just that simply adding more on one particular ingredient would make the product any better.

Never did I mention glycerin as a "bad ingredient". I said it has great solubility and consistency. Glycerin literally has three hydroxyl groups which enable the compound to form hydrogen bonds with water. So it is miscible with water and thus hydrophilic. Most fluoride toothpastes have less than 0.2% of fluoride ions with the rest being fillers, taste, and abrasives. How dare brands call their products fluoride?

I don't know about yours, but mine didn't teach medical students with comic books. If concentration is not being taught in your University's Intro to Chem course, I would advise them to change their curriculums instead of trolling a Slickdeals post with false information. Have a wonderful weekend.
Oh I did. Any ingredients with a concentration that is less than 1% may be listed in any order. And you only need 0.2% to 1% of topical Hyaluronan for it to work. It has the ability to bind water up to 1000 times of its volume. More does not indicate more in skincare science. Water and glycerin being in the front merely because of their great solubility and consistency to help the product spread (and all of those whiffs of ingredients work together as a joint force to hold moisture content).

But who am I to stop you from greasing yourself up with a good ol' jar of glycerin. I just honestly don't think that would work anywhere better or easier than, you know, a scoopful of a $5 moisturizer.

At this point I'm not sure if you are actually not intelligent at chemistry or you are just trolling this deal. But wait till you find out how much water and alcohol is in a mouthwash and the concentrations of the active ingredients 😮

Uh, you DO know that you are buying a bottle of Water with some Glycerin and a mere waft of the named ingredient, right ? There are mimic products all over Amazon, with no statement whatsoever about the concentration or type in the bottle. Quick, find the snake, he is missing his bottle of oil.

These products rarely tell you what is actually in the bottle, and whether it is high or low molecular weight. However, a gallon jug of tried and true Glycerin, a lifetime supply for an entire neighborhood, can be found for $25 or so. Smaller quantities sell for a pittance.
Your call.

I never thought seeing "acid" and 'face" in the same sentence would be a good thing. EEK!

Hyaluronic acid is an excellent humectant. And there are many more acids (or of which chemical properties resemble those of acids) such as AHA, BHA, LA, Tretinoin that are clinically proven to improve skin texture, treat acne, etc.

Though I agree many brand name skincare products are not worth the money, and one could certainly recreate this particular product with raw materials for cheap, not many of us have the time or laboratory skills to do that. And yeah, IMO this is a solid product from Neutrogena. The "Hyaluronic acid" of it is in the form of Sodium Hyaluronate. A 1.7oz jar of acidity balanced, sterile with preservatives, easy-to-use moisturizer with clinically proven ingredients for less than $5 is not that much of a gimmick.
