This is not really a deal you can get a 5000 series for the same price a few days ago. Its not bad, but certainly not slick. This is also higher TDP so maybe more power usage and a circa early 2020 processor. So right now almost a 4 year old proc?

I'd wait until BF now, sure some real deals happen.
Which deal you're referring? I did not see 5800H deal at this price or even closer. If you're referring those 5600U or 5540U based mini PCs then, it is good amount faster than them.
7730 is actually 5825U based on Zen 3 whereas 5700U is Zen 2, similar to your 4800U.

Any update on this question?
You can get a number of mini PCs with a Ryzen 5800H and 32GB RAM for ~$350 on Amazon. The 6900HX is possibly 10 to 15% faster in benchmarks for an extra $230. Only you can decide what's a better deal given the difference in performance and price for your needs; I'd save the $230 myself. (And I need to stop commenting on this thread as I've followed these mini PC deals but don't own one myself yet. LMAO)

Not gaming. But I do use Plex and might do some occasional video editing.

Sounds like you'd be better off getting an elite desk or something off ebay used. These minisforums are good until they go bad and then the company wont respond to support requests. Consensus on forums is that their support is awful.

How compatible is 2.5G Ethernet chipset with PFsense?
Seems to lack enough ethernet ports to be a great pfsense device.

Au contraire! It's perfectly normal to insist on having a DB-37 serial port on a micro-PC!

That is why I only ever used NUC's. Time will tell with ASUS now taking over.

The problem with these guys is they take a bunch of orders and them ship your item 2-3 months later.

Dang. I got this unit back in April from a Slickdeal for the Ryzen 5 with 16GB RAM for $300 and thought I did pretty good. Apparently, I did not get the best deal available lol

This will be okay for most cases. However, the Vega 8 IGP on this is not very optimized for Adobe products like Premiere Pro where even Intel's weaker integrated Graphics than this, perform better due to Adfobe software well optimized for Intel QuickSync based hardware acceleartion. I would suggest that you spend a bit extra and get one with a 12th Gen i5 or i7.

Can anyone point me to a sff or mini pc that can emulate ps2 almost perfectly
I would think anything that's beyond a ARM based microcontroller can run PS2 fine

The N100 (which I havent tested) may get a few more. I started converting my stuff to AV1
Can N95/N100 encode to AV1 in hardware? (1 video at a time is enough)
Do they support CRF option?

No, dec only. But the intel ARC GPU can. I tried doing a lot of encoding tests and the N95/N100 has a 12th gen Xe GPU and I settled on using the jellyfin-ffpmeg w/ hevc_qsv encoder at global quality 23 and heck if I can see the difference in a software encoded AV1/ hevc_qsv and it encodes at 6x even using the slow encoder. So I gave up on AV1 for now even using 1.7 because you really need to babysit grain synthesis, and with HEVC dont have to worry about it. I hand compiled, no difference. I convert more than 100 items a week, I can't hand tune every little thing.

If you want to know the encoder settings I use hit me up.

Also FWIW the size is within 10% of AV1 sw optimized and with the 12th gen enhancements to the QSV and using the jellyfin SPECIFICALLY the PQ is far superior to VAAPI and what you hear about HW encoders is probably from folks not using the latest and greatest compiled build. From what I gathered the jellyfin version is the only one that does it properly, and it has encoded over 600 epi for me and it looks great! general ffmpeg/handbrake do NOT have the compiled pipeline to take advantage of 12/13th gen Intel enhancements.

https://jellyfin.org/docs/general...eleration/

Be aware most of the N95/N100 use single channel RAM so encoding speed (HSV) will probably be slower. I'm using a 12650H (NAB7) for my encoding pipeline now. It barely breaks 30W when encoding at full bore. Of course you can do it no problem w/ an N-series it likely won't be a s fast, but way faster than SW AV1. I have not tried a HW AV1 pipeline yet, but I don't think the freeware encoders are optimized yet for specific 12+ instructions/pipelines. Maybe in a few years I revisit AV1 but am happy now.

Thank you for such an informative response!
Did you compare say bitrates with same quality between slowest hevc_qsv settings and software hevc on veryslow preset (or other hard settings)?
My purpose is archiving, so I wonder if hevc_qsv can even get close to veryslow softwware preset with CRF option?

Does hevc_qsv "global quality" work any similar to CRF in SW?
Trying to determine if hevc_qsv has any similar option to CRF in SW as it safes a lot of bitrate.

Please do share your command line, thanks.

Not sure I understand, what you mean by "optimized" in "AV1 sw optimized"?
Is AV1 SW on medium settings?

Did you use N95/N100 for hevc_qsv?
Can you give a couple examples with specific resolution/preset for what FPS one can expect? (especially interest in slowest settings)

How much RAM hevc_qsv needs say for 1080p on slowest settings?

I rarely do encoding, so I'm looking for the cheapest device (bitrate close to SW bitrate is important though as its for archiving purpose).
