But using the 3050 on battery (outside of short bursts for compute) is not very practical.
This has never been below the $1000 mark for new.
The one you're talking about is the other model without the dGPU or the open-box.

or could I wait for $899?
2) Is the hard drive removable?
Thank you!

I don't think the price tracker is accurate. I've seen open box deals dip down to that price once but you said new.
NVME SSD is easy to replace.
Can't even tell you how many times I've seen a great deal, 1 idiot makes an uneducated comment then multiple people actually go off of that person's BS!
(Which in the moment, is usually fine because.. well, more for us right? Lol. But in the long run, we would like to promote LESS fake tech idiots!)
Your name looks familiar, for the sake of feeling more secure about even considering anything of this nature... Anyone here able to vouch for this person's reputation by chance?

The other 2 I tried that didn't work were 4ft and 6ft.
I tried both TB3 and TB4 cables, though I am not sure if there is actually a spec difference in those.
The no name Amazon ones are not guaranteed to work right.

Works fine for everything else at least, just not the 3090/6900 XT I tried it with. Luckily I don't really need longer than the 3ft one that works.

Just to clarify for anyone that is thinking of upgrading the SSD, this uses a NVME 2230. That's the kind that's being used in Steam Decks. They're going to be more expensive than the traditional counterpart.

It actually is quiet enough while gaming that I can play games with the internal speakers without my ears picking up on much fan noise.
I'm torn, the frugal side of me loves the $999 deal. But the other part of me thinks that getting the 4070/32gb version of this thing means I can play all of my Xbox Series X quality games when I'm traveling.
Btw I have zero complaints so far about this model. It plays last generation games really well on the built in screen. You can get by with a 60W PD adapter. WiFi and Bluetooth work really well even for FPS multiplayer gaming, but that's one of the things I've come to expect from the Intel AX211 WiFi chip.
