I prefer dollar off, compared to credit Amazon was offering recently, even though credit has a higher value if used on taxable item.
Why I dislike Amazon credits:
The credit Amazon gives out, for example Spend $80, Get $20 Amazon Credit [amazon.com], is given once shipped and applies to next order. It needs to be sold by Amazon. If I return that order, the credit is forfeited. The only benefit is if you apply it to a taxable item, it reduces your tax.
