Looks like a terrific deal. 12th gen i7, full HD, touch screen, 512 GB SSD, slim, and 14.1 inch screen.

Only issue is that RAM is 8 GB and soldered and can't be upgraded any further. Other than this, it's one heck of a deal, imho.

Happily skip the touchscreen for double the RAM.

For browsing, watching videos, Microsoft office, and general tasks, 8 GB is fine. 16 GB is ideal but for $300, you need to sacrifice something! And, you can increase virtual RAM as 512 GB is plenty enough to buffer it.

Also, 12th gen i7 should make the overall experience better, imho.

It will not, RAM is ram adding more swap file would help but still cause slowness and increase the latency with simple task just not worth it especially if you are going to use it years to come better find a deal with upgradable ram no need to "sacrifice anything"

I have a 3rd gen i5 with 8 GB RAM and SATA SSD and it's perfectly fine for the tasks I mentioned as my kid uses it. Not one complaint from my kid about slowness... mind you, it's the 3rd gen. With the 12 gen i7 and M.2 SSD, it will be far better for general use!

These regularly pop up refurbished on Walmart's site. I've had good luck in my experience but as always YMMV.

Laptop has no heat management and TDP is limited to approx 15W. It would throttle a lot. Performance would be poor. i7 is only in name. Actual performance is like i3.

Always try to do a search like this:
Gateway GWTC71427 14.1" Laptop specs.
Maybe just GWTC7 or shorter ones for other models?
With the __specs__ in the search name. Then you'll get results like this:

Core i5-1235U performance debut: Gateway Ultra Slim 14.1 GWTC51427 laptop review [notebookcheck.net] - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

Hopefully https://nanoreview.net/en/laptop will show up. Have to be careful on the model year though, they have a comparison feature.

I'd search ( Ctlr F ) for NVMe right away, if that doesn't show up, then 2280 at NotebookCheck.net. Hopefully you'll find a NVMe PCIe 2280 hard drive to see if it has the newest 2280 ones, by far the fastest and cheapest. NotebookCheck.net will tell you for sure. Usually in smaller or cheaper 11" or 14" laptops, there are also these really small M2 NVMe 2230 & 2242 which really limit your upgrade potential unless they offer a cover to take off M2 2230 and can put a 2280 in like the Dell Latitude 3520 i5 11th Gen.
Just created two wish lists today on Amazon today for these two, wow they are expensive and very slow.
Want a cheap 14" to use sometimes but most have these 2230 or 2242 PCIe 3rd Gen's in them. They will not work with the 2280 Samsung 990 Pro's or WD Black's which SUCK !!!
