I've learned that stand mixers are one thing you don't want to cheap out on unless you like being disappointed.

As if the price wasn't a dead giveaway- this is not at all in the same lane as the KitchenAid stand.

Top comment on a reddit comparison I found from six years ago (ironically, he was spot on with the price):

"Yes, it's pretty much a complete scam.

It's a hand mixer in a flimsy plastic case that's molded and colored to look like a KitchedAid.

It's worth about $35 and will do whatever you expect a $35 hand mixer to do.

Pizza dough isn't going to happen."

To add to that, our local Walmart had these on sale for $50 new within the last two weeks. Wife and I have been considering the KitchenAid but not sure we'd use it enough to justify the cost. I looked at the reviews on this one, and it took me just a few seconds to know for certain that I should keep walking.

The KitchenAid is one of those things that doesn't have a suitable entry level alternative (there are competitors on the higher end for sure). It's one of those things that if you're going to use it, you just buck up and spring the money for it, expecting it to last for quite some time.

In my experience, it's Fairly common for kitchenaids to go on sale for <100 on Facebook marketplace, if you don't mind used appliances.

Got one in pristine condition a few weeks back for $60. Had to drive 45 minutes each way to pick it up, but totally worth the hassle, for the excellent deal I got. It is a pro hd 5qt model. Retails for $400. A kitchenaid mixer is one of those things that every home cook/baker wants, but like you said, it doesn't always get used a whole lot. So buying used is a great way to have your cake (pun intended) without breaking the bank, as lots of people (at least in the marketplace) don't put in the thought that you have and just buy it by impulse or get one as a gift or something….end up not using it a lot so just post it for a small fraction of retail just to get rid of it or because money is tight.

I have this it works great. There are cheap stand mixers that are crappy and very weak, but this isn't one of them. Only downside is there are no attachments really

That review is bs. I have one of these and it works great. If there's a test you'd like to see I'll make a video of it to prove this is a fine stand mixer and an obnoxiously good deal.

Want me to mix up some pizza dough?

I have experience with stand mixers from both ends of the price range and I can say with certainty that there is a clear difference in performance and durability. These cheap mixers use inferior materials and its parts do not hold up over time.

You can probably get away with light usage and small loads, but expect the motor to burn out or plastic gears to break once you start mixing larger amounts or stiffer dough.

Eh, I think largely you're probably correct. I've had this thing for 5 years with light/medium usage, once a month I'd say? Works great for that 🤷 ♂️

The question to ask now is, what percentage of people wanting a stand mixer would have a similar or lighter usage profile than me? Given how much shit sits around unused in the average American kitchen I'd say probably "a lot".

I think this deal probably works for at least half the people that think they want a stand mixer at, again, an obnoxiously good price.

If you have experience then why are you defending kitchen aids over priced crap it's a cheap Chinese shadow of the old days and you guys just keep buying them thinking they're the same ones from the 80s

Unfortunately, new KitchenAid mixers now use digital motors and are EXTREMELY loud. Definitely better to find a used model pre <2000 or so.

I absolutely disagree. I cook a lot and a lot of it is pastries. KitchenAid is expensive and at the bottom of the barrel in terms of reliability. I purchased a 6qt kitchen aid twice and they burned both times. First time kneading sourdough and second time kneading pizza dough.

At this point I was looking at professional mixers that are in the thousands. Except that they are so huge they wouldn't fit well in my kitchen. I decided to give a "cheap" mixer a try. Got one of the Chinese ones on amazon. What can I say. Best $100 I have spent. I have made over 1000 pizzas with it and probably 500 burger buns. Lasted way longer than I expected and is still going.

Yes kitchen aid looks nice and is metal but it only looks sturdy on the outside. Such a massive disappointment.

Don't know anything about the mixer in this listing. Maybe it is poor quality but thinking that paying $400 for a kitchen aid guarantees high quality is ignorance.
