i don't have this one but had a different battery operated trashcan (also from costco). it worked fine for a couple years. then had to trash the trash can. wish i'd had the thick skin to plonk it on the returns counter.
maybe i expect too much but i want 10 years out of a 100$ trash can.
It's funny you say that, but I think trash cans are more like cars. The more expensive it is, the less it'll last. You can probably find a $10 bin and it'll last you for generations but you buy a $300 electronic trash can, it'll break down lmao.
I've had one for almost 6 years now. It's great overall but the one issue I have is if you place it in a high traffic area where you walk within 2 feet of it often, it will open a lot even when you're just walking by.

Bought this 3 years ago from Costco and still works flawlessly. Rechargeable batteries last around 6 months. The Costco trash bags fit nicely as well.

Had similar ones. If you plan to use it around kitchen, be careful with water damage. Mine died after year or so. If you don't mind the design, Walmart has one for half of this sale price.

I'm still using the previous battery operated trashcan from Costco. I think got it for $30. It started great then opens/closes intermittently. Replaced battery still inconsistent then I converted it to use an A/C adapter. It was a simple hack. Now it works flawlessly, no issues whatsoever. It's been working for many years now. Trashcan looks like this:

How did you convert to A/C adapter?

I think these automatic trash cans are a bit wasteful... Just go with basic step open ones coz the sensors almost always break after a while. Are we that lazy to throw trash?

Here's a video on how to do it. You'll need a 9V power adapter. Check around. I'm using the power supply of an old wifi router. It was a perfect match.

Simplehuman makes top notch, quality, reliable housewares and gizmo's. That said, I haven't used this. Costco reviews have it at 4.6/5.

Have it for a few years, the thing doesn't want to break and I hate it every time I have to wait for it to open or close. It lived in the garage for a bit, now it's back in the kitchen. Once my too big supply of fitting trash bags will be used it will be a garage sale item.
