"If Capcom made Skyrim" is the best way I can think to summarize it. It's a brilliant gameplay engine, marred by an uninteresting story and some tedious backtracking.

It's such a great setting, though. I really wish Capcom had just licensed out the engine and let some other people make some high-fantasy/D&D games with it. Maybe they'll open it up with the forthcoming DD 2!

Oddly enough, I played this back in 2011 when I was in high school all the way throughout, several runs. But I couldn't get into Skyrim. I think part of it is because I like a bit of linearity, and a big part because this is third person and you can actually see your characters!

With useless waypoints that point to impassable objects such as oceans, mountains, to 'hubs' that are only available via fast travel via portals in the opposite direction.

Combat was solid though.

If you are an action RPG fan, I would also recomend Dragon's Dogma. One thing I really lile is it is a much more condensed world as opposed to say Sk

Dragon's Dogma is great, but it's no joke. Don't get it expecting to hack your way through it like it's Skyrim or something.
