This is a shit take from someone who clearly hasn't played it. Definitely a fun game, worth $40 but as others mentioned it will probably be cheaper by bf. I already owned this but did end up getting Midnight Suns PS5 Enhanced edition for $20 so it was worth checking their sale anyway.
I miss turn-based Final Fantasy. Couldn't they have kept the main series turn-based with strategies and such and just made these action rpgs as spinoffs or something like they did with Dirge of Cerberus?

This game isn't Final Fantasy. There's no strategy, no thinking, no skill involved. Just walk up to an enemy and button mash away. And the story line is trash. And for a ps5 game visuals weren't even that good. Looked like a early ps4 game

Save your money. Just watch a YouTube video of someone playing. It's far more enjoyable than playing this game. You'll be paying $40 just to press square

Had the performance and downscaling to 720p improve? Only reason I'm not buying on the PS5.

Sounds like you haven't played it. There is more than just pressing Square. You have eikon talents where you switch up your abilities on the fly. So in essence you combo each move to whatever playstyle you prefer and as you unlock more Eikons you get new abilities. I'll admit that magic took a huge backseat on this game but the attack patterns keep things interesting. The only time you might press a button to win is while fighting as an actual Eikon, because it literally tells you on the screen to press a button to do massive damage. Those are more for cinematic effect and story-related which means they don't happen that often.

The game is so easy that all of that is completely unnecessary. You proceed down the identical, linear story path as everyone else who plays this. And all you need to do is press square and run around.

So no, it sounds like you haven't it played it and merely read reviews about all the "cool stuff" you can do.

I am playing it and just got Bahamut. I'm not going to say it's difficult when doing story-related quests but I have died from some of the marked enemies because they have some abilities that can kill you in one hit. The game is not supposed to be dark souls but it is by no means hit one button and win.
