This router also has a micro SD slot that I have a bunch of movies and shows loaded on, so I can stream when/if we don't have service somewhere.
Cons for this model are the built in memory (don't remember how much but it's ridiculously small). There are tons of "apps" (OpenWRT stuff mostly) available to install on it, but the damn thing runs out of memory fast. I lost the DLNA player when I added the app to change the TTL settings.
All that said, I'm looking to upgrade to a 5G router like this, so I can eliminate the phone part of this setup. GL has a new model (GL-X3000) which has much newer tech (5G, way faster processor, more RAM, etc.) but its pretty pricey...$550 ish most places. Of course there is the nighthawk m6 pro small hotspot, but it's not nearly as powerful and is still expensive.
I'm pretty sure I've decided on the Cudy P5 model. It's basically a home style router (multiple antennas, snapdragon X62, etc) with 5G radios in it. It is also able to "repair" the IMEI in it (think tablet plans here 😁) and they are going for around $350 ish on fleabay...
I just checked the GL-X3000 on Amazon and it's currently $519 and you can use a $50 coupon to get an additional discount. So it's not too bad at all.
The Cudy P5 which you pointed out is a very cool 5G device. But the $549 price tag seems high.
Do you mind sharing which TTL setting app do you use? Just PM if mods don't permit the mention of the app. BTW, I am on T-Mobile and not sure if there is such a TTL setting app which works optimally with T-Mobile.
Not as elegant a solution using just SIM cards; I currently have an ASUS RT-AC68U which I just do a USB 2.0 tether to a 5G phone device.
I am still trying to find a cheap Wifi router product that has two maybe three USB ports which allows multiple 5G phones to be tethered to, and have USB port link bonding/ aggregation capability. Example, the device might look like this, multiple USB ports that allow multiple phones to be USB tethered or USB cellular modems: https://www.starwaveglo
If you know of any such product, pls do share!
