Just FYI to people. We all knew how bad Walgreens inventory management was - that didn't previously apply to online orders. Guess what it is now impacting online orders too.

What they are doing is taking your order and asking a particular store to fulfill it. But we know that the store inventory information is all wrong. So what the store does is ship you only some items and cancels the rest. So if you are depending upon getting rewards for certain $ spend - either their reward coupons or product category spend, now your order is short of the spend category. So basically now you are buying at their inflated prices without having the rewards to soften the blow.

I have had problem with 3 of last orders - they will arbitrarily cancel one thing but online, it is still available to ship.

I miss out on the bogos at my store. They always cancel the second or third item so that I don't get the benefit of the offer. They say there is not enough inventory to fulfill the entire order, but on occasion I have spotted items they removed from my order on store shelves.

Funny you should post this as I was wondering about the decreasing inventory levels for shipping across the board. I cannot get enough items available for minimum shipping any more while the few ones I want are only available for shipping.

This is different from the inventory management issues they have always had. More than 60 percent of items are not available for shipping at all any more.

They always shipped from the fulfilment center at Illinois (not the same as same day delivery from stores) so it isn't an issue with store inventory. They are just not stocking up on items for central shipping.

They have been having cash flow issues it seems. Free cash flow went down more than 100% in the quarter ending May 2023. The next quarter ending Aug 2022 results to be announced late Oct 12. The CEO stepped down at beginning of Sep and no replacement found. The CFO resigned earler in August. So, I don't expect the results to be good. They had announced a $400M cost savings effort for the quarter so all this is likely part of it.

I suspect the huge giveaway of WG Cash a month ago was to improve the quarter results for cash flow moving reward liabilities to future on the books.

My plan is to use up most of my rewards cash pile before Oct 12. Bad results will likely be accompanied by program changes that might devalue it considerably (cannot be used with other sales and promotions, etc).

Their pharmacy business is all that is keeping the lights on.

They should hire me as the new CEO. Here's my plan.

1. Simplify the rewards program. From now on, we'll just have W Cash. Everybody gets the same digital coupons and boosters. Most importantly, you can now earn W Cash when you use it.
2. I'm going to fire the ad department. The old paper ad was great. We're going back to having the paper ad in the store.
3. I'm going to fire all of the people who work for us with bad attitudes. This will be most of our employees but if you don't like interacting with people and can't be friendly, we don't want you.
4. I'm going to launch an ad campaign asking people to come back to our stores and give us another chance. We'll have raffles and giveaways with balloons and popcorn. The grand prize winner will get a brand new Tesla. Every $10 purchase automatically enters you in the prize pool.
4. You won't have to pay me $400M to implement this program. I'll do it for free.

Needs to be something that won't blow up in my garage, force me to use electricity only for it or drive me into brick walls and pedestrians. LMAOLMAOLMAO

I don't own a Tesla and I'm not an Elon Musk fan. I wouldn't consider an electric car for myself. I picked a Tesla because I thought it was something that the typical Wags customer would want. I learned a lot from my post. It's so easy to have something backfire and ruin a perfectly good plan. I see why the CEO can think that there's nothing he can do to make people happy (if a $70,000 car won't do it) so he might as well screw them. My second act as CEO is to forget all of the changes. We'll go back to a confusing rewards system and keep the ad online. And there's not going to be any car. I'll keep it for myself.

Walgreens is strange. The cashiers at the stores near me are always changing, and most aren't very good. At CVS, in contrast, many of the cashiers have worked there for many years, and they can be very friendly and helpful. I know working retail is a tough job, but CVS seems to be much better at retaining its cashiers.

CVS program was strange - not sure if it is still the case. They would cut over to the next week ad sometime late Saturday - you would never know if the cvs extra bucks would print or not. And I and manager got into an exchange of words over this because she did nothing to honor the printed ad. That was the end of CVS for me - I don't want to spend my life arguing about a $4 extra rewards that should have printed and did not print. Never visited CVS after that. On the plus side - it has made my life simpler - not having to deal with expiring extra bucks.

I was fine with Walgreens due to the ability to order online and ship at home - but these recent shipping snafu's probably is going to end my relationship with Walgreens too - we will see if this is a temporary blip or are they going to fix their issues.

They lost me when they refused to match online prices in-store because I check & compare prices online before deciding which chain to shop. It was frustrating to find mouthwash $2 higher in-store and they wouldn't match it. Times when I did store pick up I was given expired products that I didn't notice until later so I prefer to select my own.
Another thing is they may be caught up in the boycott surrounding mifepristone.

Sigh. What you described happened to me today for an in store pick up order. One of the items was out of stock and they further messed something up. Asked me to just rebuy everything at store price. The coupons are tracked digitally though, so once you use them once, they don't re-apply.

Your situation is bit different. A pickup order is a bit easier to navigate than a ship to home order. You could have had them cancel your pickup order. When that happens, you get your coupons back in your account.
To (hopefully) avoid pickup order issues, I put my items in my online cart and then go to the store to make sure that they actually have the items. I gather all my items and I then explain to the staff that I am about to submit a pickup order and that I have all the items right here. I've never had issues doing it that way. They don't seem to mind because it is less work for them.
