The monoprice cali dlx is probably the closest you will get to a player series fender out of the box. Maybe a 1/4 turn on the truss but it should be good for intonation and string height.

Seriously these Alniico V pickups punch above their weight. Ther aren't noiseless but I'm yet to find a Noiselss (Fishman Fluence excluded which is active and violates the sanctity of the true Leo Fender design but me likeeee a lot) passive pickup that isn't stacked and wont produce a 60 cycle hum. In fact the 60cycle hum is overcome by overloading the heck out of the signal like Gilmore does. Once saturated there is no definition of the 60 cycle hum, Its as noisy and as touchy as a passive humbucker but with the added clarity of a single coil.

I digress, If you are a Pink Floyd, John Mayer, Maroon 5, Polyphia fan then this is for you. If you are a slash, led zep, Heavy Metal fan then this is not for you. Sure you can do a lot of surgery but its kinda not worth it.

Many will disagree that strat is an all rounder but no guitar is an all rounder IMHO.

I bought it.. Repped

I got the sunburst boardwalk when it was on sale last. Pretty good guitar for the price. But it did need a setup.
The finish is a bit.. flimsy? I had some blue painters tape masking off the body a little for an unrelated thing, and when removing the tape it actually removed a chip of finish too.

They can be good guitars. But they tend to benefit/need a setup, which would be around $65 in todays dollars for a basic setup.
I'd consider a basic setup to be adjusting the neck relief, adjusting the string action, ensuring the radius of the bridge matches the fretboard, adjusting intonation, and maybe adjusting the nut for the proper string height. They usually include a fresh set of strings too.
These things aren't hard to do, and youtube can be very helpful for learning to do it yourself. Learning how to do it on your own is beneficial and saves money. You would need some basic tools (that usually come with the guitar, just a couple different size hex wrenches) and a good way of accurately measuring small distances. They make action gauges specific for that, but any small accurate ruler that can do fine measurements would work. Adjusting the radius on the Boardwalk is a little more complicated as you have to file the saddles instead of just adjusting a screw. However, those tune-o-matic style bridges tend to not need as much adjustment from the factory, if any when compared to those like on the other two guitars.
If the frets need a little leveling that might cost more. If the frets aren't very close to perfectly level it can cause the strings to buzz, or even be muted.

This is fine, just spend $50 taking it into a guitar store to get it set up. If it is not set up correctly, you will not enjoy learning on it. You'll still be under 200 for most of these models.

YouTube gives it generally favorable reviews. Semi-hollows are great if you want a lighter guitar.

But I'd watch some reviews before pulling the trigger. Especially those that compare it to similar prices instruments

These semi-hollows from Indio are surprisingly heavy. Decent value for the money tho, and like others said, expect to need some setup. If you want lightweight and playable out-of-the-box, I recommend looking at the Gretsches...but then you're over $200.

If you want the "good" Rocksmith (2014) you better hurry - it's being pulled from online stores next month.

Interesting, why that one?

Also any particular cable I should use, given the online one doesn't include one?

And the original question still remains -- is this guitar good enough for it?

Well, opinions are subjective but if the internets are to be believed (to include myself) the new subscription-based Rocksmith+ isn't really a product many are interested in, especially considering 2014 wasn't at all "broken." Look into it for yourself - and I'm not being churlish when I say that, I just think scrolling through a few threads on Reddit should give you a better and more complete picture than my meagre skills could manage.

There are suggestions, hacks and workarounds for 3rd party cables (again, good info on the sub) but if you don't want to be arsed with that out of the gate you can pick up the Rocksmith Real Tone Cable on Amazon for $25.

As the other ppl have mentioned I think any of these guitars would be good starters (too bad the Ash one is OOSRoll Eyes (Sarcastic)) as long as you factor in the price of taking it to a guitar tech or luthier for a real set up. Yeah, you can look up videos if you're adventurous but it's likely money well spent to make sure whichever one you pick is enjoyable to play and registers well within Rocksmith (if the intonation/input is jacked up the experience is...diminished, significantly). It should be noted the sales on these guitars tend to rotate pretty regularly, so there's no need to rush to a decision based on FOMO.

Just received the Indio OS30 and although the box was a bit beat up the padded gig bag protected the guitar just fine. The guitar is definitely NIB and still had the paper taped around the strings. Main reason I'm posting is because the pickups on these sound pretty amazing to me. The fretwork and set-uo out of the box is the best of all the Indios I've ordered. Only thing was the fret board is somewhat dry but the fret ends are smooth and no fret sprout. Happy with this one for sure!
