What was their reason for not accepting your return within 30 days?
they would only accept the power supply return if i returned the entire bundle, which was a water-cooled case, mb, and ram... i would have had to disassemble everything and put it back in the boxes, then drive another 60 miles up there to bring it back.

they don't tell you that when you purchase it.

I plan to upgrade my GPU and PSU around Black Friday, since it isn't that far off and will probably result in getting a better GPU for my budget if I can wait another month or two.

This PSU seems to have about the right wattage and quality I was looking, plus being modular and supporting PCIe 5.0 since my mobo supports 5.0 for future upgrades.

At this price point, I'm now tempted to upgrade my PSU first, and still hold off until BF for the GPU. Would anyone be aware of forthcoming deals better than this if I were to wait, or reason not to do so?

i would not use evga power supplies if you gave it to me for free.

i got a higher-end evga power supply in a microcenter bundle, it had unbearable coil whine, mc refused to exchange it even tho it was within 30 days, so i had to deal with evga.

evga did an exchange all right, but it was for a much older power model that was lacking features like an eco mode; when the box arrived at the house it had a huge hole punched in the side... mc + evga = nightmare
It's extremely likely the damage to the box occurred during shipping, I'm sure if you complained to EVGA they'd have sent you another one. Also EVGA has a long history of very decent customer service. They ship kinda slow but something obviously went wrong and I'm sure they'd fix it if you had contacted them again and you might have even gotten an unannounced upgrade for your trouble.

FYI All of EVGAs power supplies released in 2023 have had much shorter warranty period, but typically 5+ years is standard.
EVGA is winding down the business as the owner wants to retire but does not want to sell the company and have a new owner trash its reputation.

I'd get this one instead, if you're happy with EVGA as a brand: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WGQT8CC/

Not many people can use 1000W.
what you said basically means: you guys want to buy a G-cup bra, buy C-cup instead because not many people can use G-cup bra

That's generally true (although I've had one or two bad experiences with their motherboards). But a 3-year PSU isn't good. Anyone that actually needs this has a $900+ GPU. Just spend $150 and get something with MINIMUM 5-year warranty.

3-year warranties are for bargain builds. And then you get the EVGA, Seasonic, Corsiar top brands for 550W bargain units. 3-year warranties shouldn't exist for 750W+, IMO, because they system's they're designed for cost over $1k anyways.
The warranty on this likely has less to do with the quality and more to do with the business. People have been speculating how long EVGA can even stay in business with the current business model. They used to have ten yr warranties on practically everything power supply related

Good price for a 1000w gold but I wouldn't bank on the warranty.
How does it compare to Corsair 850w https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BYQPH5J3

The corsair doesn't mention warranty at all.

1000w is a weird range, for who need 1000w most like 850w is good enough, for others more than likely they'd need 1300w or higher.

I have an supernova 1000w from years ago, it's my go to psu for a regular build, very reliable. Yet it might be when EVGA has the 10 year warranty so hard to compare with this.

This 3 years warrant worries me.

That corsair has a 7 year warranty. https://www.corsair.com/ww/en/p/p...9020249-ww

Otherwise I don't know how it would compare other than having a 150w less rating.

Power supplies are most efficient ~50% load. So for a beefy gaming rig that pulls ~500w it's the perfect size.

yes, it was damaged in shipping, which is kind of o/t from where the thread is, i just mentioned it because it was icing on the screwed-up cake.

the real problem isn't so much that they make power supplies that have coil whine, it's the fact that their warranty return wasn't like for like, they sent me an obsolete model of power supply that didn't have an eco mode, that turned the fan off.

it did however have a 10-year warranty when new, as did the evga power supply it replaced, which is better than what evga is selling now.

one option would be an older power supply design that doesn't have the new 12VHPWR gpu connector... the other day i got a super flow*r 1200w for $180, with a 10-year warranty... not as efficient at lower power draw, but with huge heat sinks and bigger caps it should live longer in eco mode.

within a manufacturers product line, you can compare the weight of the power supplies and the size of the case they are in, before purchasing.

if one is bigger and heavier, it'll probably mean bigger heat sinks and heavier-duty components... should be similar with different manufacturers, but maybe not as clear-cut.
