Straws can become obnoxious to clean thoroughly and if you happen to lose one with these types of cups, you are SOL. For ~$12, you can get two of these spill proof sip cups:

If they fall on the ground, some residual liquid will splatter a little from under the silicone top but that is all that has ever escaped and, believe me, my children have put these to the test over the last several years that we have been using them. They are excellent cups and you can't beat the price
