You're delusional.
Attached is a screen shot showing, with red dots and circled in blue, the over 20 different locations of Tesla superchargers all right along the roughly 450 mile Interstate route from Boston to Buffalo.
Also you already admitted the trip was in May- so the BS red herring of "BUT WHAT ABOUT RANGE WHEN IT IS REALLY COLD" bit ain't gonna fly... (though even if it did you'd be adding one more 10-15 minute stop, not the histrionic "hours" you're talking about)
I've made a fair number of trips of similar length in my Tesla (RTP to Atlanta for example) and it never involves significantly more stops/time than a gas car does for restrooms/drinks/etc
But can we have the care without returning it on the 6th day?

The 'model' for pickup and return is backwards for [airport] rentals. Needing it to be above a certain level is backwards when you're rushing to catch your flight. Most airports have one or two gas stations all the ready to serve, and gouge, the returning rental car fleets but it doesn't work for charging.
It makes more sense for them to let you drop it off 25% or more gratis and charge it while they're turning over the vehicle.
I get why they want to promote EV's. Less maintenance costs for their fleet, trendy, being the 'environmentally friendly brand' , interesting new vehicles their customers haven't driven before (who gets excited about a Malibu?) but they need to make the business model fit.
This would be PERFECT for an airport location doing a full rental facility remodel. They could change the balance of charging stations to petrol fueling capacity in the process ... and maybe even become a public charging site off to the side.
Anyway, I also don't recommend renting an EV for travel for most people [who don't already own one]. It isn't about range. There are enough bits just slightly different from the ICE car you're used to. Most of it is actually due to the insistence on trying to move EVERYTHING to one infotainment screen (kudos to Polestar for having a reasonable amount of real buttons/switches for normal things). If you're already in an unfamiliar place trying to navigate around and get used to the unique local road oddities, you don't need additional distractions.
