No, it's not. My bill dropped $30/mo. That's $360/yr...3 hours less I have to work. 👍
You laugh, but it's awesome to a) lower my water heater temperature from the road while I'm on vacation, and b) adjust my schedule so that in the winter, it does most of the heating in the morning because my furnace has been heating the house, vs switching to afternoon heat in the summer when the sun has been out for hours.

It's a Rheem sold under the Richmond name. Good unit: https://www.richmondwaterheaters.com/about/

Source 2: They're the same company: https://www.richmond-mea.com/about/

Price isn't great though.

-30% federal tax credit (with some caps), and some potential local rebates.

What do you recommend, without a softener? A person can install larger connections, and you need to size the heater to the home. Buying a 50-gallon in a small home is often overkill, and leads to very fast calcium build up.

I have a 50g GE Geospring and it's around 5years old now and haven't had a single issue on hard well water.

I flush it at least annually if not more often.

I don't really like the added complexity or point of failure, but I pay $0.04Kwh off peak so adjusting accordingly saves cash. Vacation - what's that? But if I travelled for work or pleasure that would make sense as well. Squatters don't get hot water!

You are lucky....the cheapest off-peak rate we have here in San Diego is 27.6 cents/kwh.
