I've been debating buying this since it came out but can't get over these bad reviews. If I am going to pull the trigger, this is the right price.

Does anyone have first hand knowledge to push me in either direction?

I agree. I've seen too many complaints about the track system and the super cheap build quality. I will probably skip this tool regardless of price drop.

The biggest flaw with this is that almost every other track saw uses the same or interchangeable track system and this uses a proprietary track. So if you buy a wen you can get the fancy festool track and still use it, but this you can only use the ryobi track.

I bought this a year ago for $250 with a 4ah Hp battery. It's my only experience with a track saw. I'm just a hobbiest weekend woodworker. I have dewalt, ridgid and ryobi tools. I buy ryobi for the price and dewalt when I need the quality. Knowing the price point, it does feel like this is slightly below what I would expect from ryobi and what I've experienced with my other ryobi tools. I'd only recommend this over a circular saw or if you were only in ryobi ecosystem.

I haven't read the bad reviews as I got this on release (mainly because I'm heavily invested in ryobi so it doesn't make sense for me to consider other brands, and I don't want a corded one. )

The track is not compatible with other brands so you'll have to buy from ryobi if you need longer tracks, but 55 inch is good enough for my tinkering

The base is plastic but unless you abuse it, I feel it's steady enough for my cuts (I use a track saw when I need accurate cuts, so I'm not going for speed anyway). No wobbling or tilting once you set it right. Maybe not as easy and intuitive as those higher priced ones, but it's also a one time setup, so doesn't bother me.

The plunge stop is also a plastic screw holding against a plastic shell, which I suspect where the negatives are coming from. Again for my home diy use, I see nothing wrong with it. Sure I'll be happy for metal housing and all, but I don't really need it.

I'm still using the stock blade despite getting a Diablo immediately getting the saw. So far it's served me well with cutting plywood sheets up to 3/4 thick. I 3D printed a cover for the opening and I'm getting most of the dust extracted with my 6gallon ryobi shop vac.

Bottom line, if you're invested in ryobi battery line, and only doing diy work, I think this would be a perfect addition to your workshop given the price point.

I got this a year ago with the 55" track extension so I can work with full size plywood sheets (110" total). I've been pretty happy with it, although I'm more of an infrequent home diy user. Also used it to cut down a 1.5" butcher block countertop.

I kinda always wanted one of these as I'm heavily invested in the Ryobi ecosystem... but you guys have talked me out of it. Thanks I think 😅

Wait for a sale and spend a little more on the Milwaukee track saw instead. I love Ryobi tools, but this one has gotten a lot of bad reviews.

If you cutting 99% plywood or MDF, it'll work just fine. If you start trying to cut thicker woods, it's not a good choice. Just get the Kreg.

This is the only track saw I've used. I picked it up when it was $150 for the kit from DTO. I was aware of the bad reviews when I bought it. For that price, though, I've been quite happy with it. Yes, it sucks that the track is proprietary and only comes to 55" out of the box, but the additional track was ~$40 on DTO, and, while that feels like plenty of money to ask for the extra track, $190 for the saw, battery, charger, and extra track feels like a pretty good deal IMO.

I don't think I'd feel the same way if I'd paid $200 for the tool-only version, even if the "retail price" is $330 or whatever they're saying it is. While the tool feels fairly solid in my brief experience, it just feels like it has a lot of plastic and generally feels kinda cheap for that much money. I agree with the other comments that it feels sufficiently sturdy even with the plastic, but it just feels like they should've delivered more for the original MSRP to be that high.
