Isn't this, like, THE ONE? Much better grinder than the express?
Dying to know. Was looking at the touch for $800 but this seems like the no brainer option unless I'm missing something about the models... I don't even like a touch screen on this sort of appliance.

The analogue pressure gauge on the Express is definitely cooler looking and classier, but by all accounts this one has a better grinder and also a better heat pump, making the more expensive price worth it, and yet here it is one sale for LESS than the express. I haven't pulled the trigger yet but, damb....
Bought one of these last year on black friday for the same price. With the cost of *bucks and working from home, this paid for itself in like 3 months.
I bought this exact same one last year around thanksgiving for around $500 with a new Prime card. Great coffee machine with an excellent grinder and a capability to make a coffee every 30s or so...we make about 3 to 4 coffee extractions everyday. You just need to descale and flush the machine every now and then whenever the machine tells you to do that to keep it going stronger and hotter
I have this unit and love it. Have had it about two years. Grinder is decent, but don't go thinking it compares to a standalone in the price range; probably obvious but I've seen multiple mentions of grinders. A distribution tool will be your best friend.
All in all I can definitely recommend. Pays for itself multiple times a year in our house (compared to buying coffeehouse coffees).
How often do you guys get coffee somewhere? You'll make $5 lattes for less than a buck in materials. The math of just one coffee each a week at a coffee house will have this thing paying for itself in a year and a half. And honestly, you'll eventually make better coffees than what you were previously paying for without having to leave home.
We went through the same thing when we chose to buy and told ourselves we'd return it in the return window if we didn't love it. Two weeks in we were upset we didn't buy one sooner.
I will say that you will probably fall down the accessories rabbit hole. I do recommend basic things like a scale and a dosing funnel to make things much easier to dial in, especially to someone new to it all.

I've owned a pro for a few years after upgrading from an express. The pro uses a thermojet heating element rather than a heating block - this allows the unit to come up to temp within about 3 seconds from turning it on. The technology is similar to a tankless water heater but comes at the expense of relatively low steam pressure (not that the BBE is any better in that regard). The pro gets you instant heat up time, a marginally better grinder, a shot timer instead of a pressure gauge, and a marginally better steam wand. The grinder has a few more step settings compared to the express, but I wouldn't say its much better.
