I worked in a data center for 7 years and was seeing drives of all brands fail daily. We also used various types of drives there, consumers and enterprise/DC level drives. A 10 hour shift, there are days you would replace 20+ drives and days you would replace 0 (not many of those)
How is $10 more for 4TB less a better deal???
That's why I got divorced...

That's a steal on the Exos. Paid 228 from them two months ago for the same , and thought that was a great deal too. It was a bare drive , but packaging was perfectly secured.

Which of these 3 drives would you all recommend for a desktop PC in an office, which serves as a Plex server mainly (and has its own SSD for the OS/apps).

Planning to run it for 10+ years (if it'll behave).

Do these not have the manufacturer warranty? I see 3 years (SPD) listed on the WD drive.

I guess it's personal preference between Seagate or WD. I am a Western Digital guy myself.

This deal is okay. If you want to pay a little more you could get a new 14tb from newegg for $219 (with coupon): https://www.newegg.com/seagate-ex...6822185027 and that comes from seagate 5 year warranty instead of 3 year SPD warranty

Ended up pulling trigger on 2 of the WDs for an NAS build.

So other than warranty, these are new right? Also you are dealing with Newegg (that's a no no in my book).

Are WD generally considered to be better? More so than Seagate?

I think it's more or less personal preference. I've had two Seagates fail and zero WD's fail, so I tend to prefer WD. 🤷🏻 ♂️

Since price is the same I like the WD over Seagate for these models. WD is slightly quieter. Think I have 10 of the WD 18s in use right now and 2 of the Seagates. I mostly buy on price point though and not worry a ton between the 2 brands

Why don't you guys buy refurbished off ebay bellow $10 per TB. I'm doing RAID 5 anyway so if one fails I can just warranty it without any downtime nor data loss

Is it a bad idea to use this as an NVR drive in a dream machine se? If it's not, any thoughts on which drive is better for this purpose?
