Use 40 for cutting construction lumber like 2x4s when you don't care about the cut. use 80 for finish piece like baseboard. I also use 80 for pvc railing or something like that, which is brittle and can explode when use 40. 100 is kida overkill.
100 would be for your fine finish work. Crown molding, etc. Clean cuts for when you can't do the old, caulk and paint to make it what it ain't

Dumb question, I know higher the tooth the cleaner the cut but when would you use a 40 vs 100. Like what are you cutting. I was gifted a DeWalt miter saw and need some blades.

Fantastic timing! Just went to replace my table saw blade tonight and didn't have a spare. The 10" 2 packs are also on sale for those who might need them.

They also had 12" blades in the clearance section at my Lowes this week. I noticed the tooth count but can't recall since wasn't paying too much attention to that size but I don't think it was 100.

Those high counts are often found in specialty blades, i.e. plywood blades. 40-50 tooth is typically considered "combination" blades as they can be used both crosscut and ripping since ripping blades are often in the 24T range.

Saw them in the clearance area as well… they were the 40T version. Passed as I use an 80T for almost everything - 4x4s to crown molding.

WARNING: this is not a chop saw. chop saw run at lower rpm than miter saw

if you use your blades that make the smoothest cut possible, a miter saw will quickly destroy that expensive blade with dulling and ruining the steel's hardness / temper already done to it. , chop saw won't do that.On the other hand I can't see how using a big abrasive cutting wheel that cut, because it can't ruin the sharpness it stay same sharpness until that cutting disk is all used up. heat won't bother that type of cutting wheel as far as I know. It give more rough cut but that ok can clean it up after. And I'm pretty sure your miter/sliding miter can use the abrasive cutting discs without any problems
