The TCL r646 is the better TV but this is a Sony 50" so this may be a good choice for people looking for that.

Not that I'm upset at all, but make sure you look over any OB purchase really, really well. I'm typically all about a deal and have bought tons of open box items over the years with mostly good results. I splurged a bit on an open box 65" Sony OLED A80L a couple of days ago, with the notation on the listing saying nothing but "scratch". After getting it home and going over it with a fine-toothed comb and testing it out, it was a lot more than a "scratch": missing remote, there was an actual scratch on the screen (small, maybe 3/4"), one of the corners was rubbed off a little and missing paint, several places where it looks like internally the front glass detached from the next screen across a line about 8-10" from the top of it, as well as noticeable vertical bars across the entire screen spaced about 4" apart. It must have been dropped...but what a bummer to get it home and find all that. I can only guess they didn't actually look it over or test it out.

I'm taking it back, but just a forewarning. I guess there's a bummer in every batch. I think I've decided on the LG C3 as the logical replacement (new), but am open to suggestions as well.

You can ask them to test open box TVs and provide(find) you with proper remote. I've done it twice at Best Buy before.

But mist if these ioen box are located in their clearance store (Houaton ha one). The adore associates often won't budge in testing anything. Plus there will already be a "Geek Squad Tested" label on it. But they will certainly allow you to self inspect physically on your own at the store before leaving.
