Wonder if it makes sense to buy the cheapest one and use it for trade in deal.

Update: answering my own question, technically if you buy a $25 kindle paperwhite, you can trade in for $5 dollars and get a 20% off for a new kindle, which means that as long as the new kindle is over $100, it's a good option.

So, if you are buying a kindle scribe ($419), you would be paying $25 (kindle 2015 paperwhite) -$5 (trade in value) + 419 x 0.8 (20% off for trade in offer) = $355.2. Assuming it works and you want a scribe.
my nexxtech portable vacuum i bought from circuit city still holding charge.
8, nearly 9 years old... Do the batteries even hold a charge?

Nice deal! Would buy an Oasis if I didn't already have four Paperwhites.

I bought a refurbished 2015 Paperwhite last year for $20 on Woot.

It was in excellent condition and the battery still seems solid, I don't use it much but I've only had to charge it a few times so far.

I got one of those and it holds quite well. I can't remember charging before reading a book to the end. One thing that it does: it freezes now and then for no apparent reason. Got the Paperwhite 2017 I believe.

I don't believe they do. Mine came in a brown Amazon-branded package that was designed to hold a small tablet-style device.

My 10 year old Paperwhite would hold a charge for weeks. But these might have new batteries?

I may jump in for a trade in for Scribe discount. Has anyone used one recently? I tried one when it first came out and the note taking tools were horrible. I also debate splurging on a Samsung tablet for notes and other uses.

I have gotten them in retail from woot before (but it was open and torn). Usually they come in brown generic packaging. If you want it as a gift, it is 99% going to look open at best, used at worst.

wrap it in your own custom sustainability packaging with a note that says "I know you wouldn't want to contribute to landfills so I took something out for you"
