M3 Pro 12 core CPU / 18 core GPU
18 GB RAM
1 TB SSD
The M1 Max should outperform the M3 Pro, though maybe with worse efficiency and thermals if Apple's claims are to be believed.
64 GB RAM would cost an additional $800 with M3.
The 2 TB would cost an additional $400 with M3.
Seems like a decent deal. But it feels rough to pay $2200 for a 3 year old laptop.
For the web browsing, video watching and light productivity use cases which is a lot of people 8gb is more than enough. But then so would a $199 Chromebook.
But for real workflows 8gb just doesn't cut it. Paging systems limitations cannot be overcome.
Whats worse is the payment plan offered by the B&H is $184 for 12 months = $2208.
You dont have $9 to pay in interest? Shocking

This puppy has 64gb of ram in it. About time there's an Apple machine that doesn't have 2013 specs.
I was wondering because doesn't the 14" M1 pro version have less cores than the 16" version?

That said the 16" does have slightly higher thermal headroom and can thus sustain higher performance under heavy combined CPU/GPU load.

You can have your opinion that the base model should have more RAM but coming in to Slickdeals to post "about time there's an Apple machine" when these machines have been present, and have been on sale before, is not a damning statement against the lower RAM on base models at all. The currently on sale $750 M1 MacBook Air is still a really good computer for many, even at 8GB/256GB.
