Besides the metal corners, which I would think uses up space for inside the boxes, what other advantages are there for this one compared to the Ryobi Link? Going to get a set for someone for Christmas, and the Ryobi link set has been going on sale a lot for $79 at my local DTO store. Walmart has the Hart version on sale for $75. Personally I would pick the Ryobi set, but willing to get this if there's good reasons why.

The durability difference is really pronounced between the two sets. The Milwaukee is rated to hold heavier items.

If you mostly need a storage solution that won't leave the house or RV often the Link will be fine. If you'rea professional that will transport your tools in the case definitely get the Packout.

They're both contracted out to the same manufacturer but I'll tell you they are very different. From the latch ease of use, to the thickness, availability of accessories (usually Ryobi is the king but Milwaukee has them beat hands down). The color is unfortunately why link has already been pulled twice for redesign. That's coming from someone has had DeWalt, Packout, and the Link. The link is a glorified storage box. I know they have to stick with their colors but it's way too prominent for anybody to take serious. instead of going with their color accents and a strong logo, they just went with the green at 90% of the real estate on the box. Not the best move Ryobi isn't going to win on this one. If you're looking to get a good set without spending the money (although this is a killer deal) Wait until a little closer to Thanksgiving and get the rigid set. It's a great compromise for the price. Hart Will also be on sale at Walmart, also made by the same company. Great bang for your buck there and pretty good quality for that money.
Oh yeah, the harbor freight ones lol same company. It's a plastics company that makes so many things you don't know. Israeli if it makes a difference. Great products. but the Ryobi couldn't be too good because it had to slot in with more established products that are more profitable.

I just spent too much time researching these, and ultimately landed on Packout. Packout has by far the most options, and seems to be the most durable. They also offer drawers - I got this with the 2 drawer Packout as well.

Durability, expandability, and overall quality. The seals are tight, the latching system is great, and you can lock them if you want. I'm an ambitious DIYer and was sick of dragging like 10 little Dewalt / Milwaukee tool bags whenever I went to work on my rental or second home, so this was the best solution.

At this price it's a no brainer unless you just want a plastic bin to store stuff in

Thanks for the replies. Yes, it'll be for work for someone that currently uses the 27 gallon black bins with yellow lids to store his tools and he has to tote all of them (3 or 4) into the hotel room every night.

I keep wanting to see the Milwaukee first hand, but two Home Depots I have went to does not have a demo available as people keep cutting the tie straps and walking out with them.

I'll chat with his sister and see if she wants to go 1/2 on the Milwaukee set. $100 was my limit.

I would absolutely recommend this pack out deal for that (I personally use dewalt toughsystem, but would have bought this instead if it were available then).
The ryobi stuff likely wouldn't hold up nearly as well if he's shuttling them between the jobsite and hotel rooms.
