Most of the "14th gen" chips are basically rebadged 13th gen, but the 14700K has four more cores than the 13700K.

They're E cores, and most games aren't built to effectively use that many cores, but it's a notable difference for CPU heavy productivity work.
While I consider myself THE biggest storage speed freak on the planet, what on earth do you need 5th Gen solid state speeds for? Just curious.

Is this a good deal for the start to a new gaming pc? mine is too long in the tooth. An i5-6600k with a GTX970. No productivity work other than MS OFFICE stuff
You're better off with AMD 7800x3d CPU which will give you similar or even better performance while running much cooler. This combo is for those that need both productivity (development or content creation) and gaming performance. Wait for Microcenter or Newegg to have a bundle on it.

Im really thinking about upgrading my pc. A quick question for everyone, where do you sell your old PC components to?
Ebay, craigslist, friends, family. Pick your poison.

Has anyone ever seen one of these Micro Center deals with a Gigabyte motherboard in the bundle? Gigabyte is the only motherboard I use for my personal builds and I've been waiting for one to come along.
Msi is top tier. Asus is garbage now.

I would rank msi as the best motherboard company currently now

Don't be an idiot and try to do liquid metal like one of the posts above. LM is serious stuff and will kill your CPU, MoBo, and GPU if you're not careful when just a minute amount gets on anything but the chip itself. He is just bragging because he can do it but everyone else needs to stay away from it or you'll just be wasting $550.

Here is a youtube video [youtube.com] from a GPU repair guy of an idiot that killed his brand new RTX 4090 with it.
He's talking about termal paste. Kryonaut Grizzly is the best thermal paste on the market and will give you really solid cooling. Don't know why you're calling the guy an idiot nor why you're talking about a gpu.

Liquid metal thermal paste has the best heat reduction, followed by ceramic, followed by synthetic (such as silicone)

This is an excellent bundle. All parts are top tier minus the ram, the ram is absolutely fine for use though. G.skill is it for ram, just thet this is on 36 which is a Samsung die (12nm in size), when the best die is a hynix die clocking at 32 (10nm in size)

Samsung die are not greatest for overclocking while hynix die are the best and can handle overclocks very well.

For non overclocking, this will do excellent

I used to lap the IHS to reduce temps, because the surface of intel's IHS's used to be highly irregular.

They're much more flat now though. You don't get massive 10-20 degree drops just from a lap job. Wink

One of these two air coolers and any normal thermal paste are all you really need. Don't fret over a few degrees when these things can hit 100 degrees C these days. Make sure to get a decently wide case to accommodate the air coolers. You don't need to be spending $100+ on an NH-D15 when these two identical options cost less and the DeepCool just plain looks better.

I've tried the liquid metal stuff... personally not a fan, but to each their own. Arctic MX-6 does a good enough job without having to worry about the liquid metal aspect. That said, with attention to detail liquid metal will give optimal results.

What did you need second Gen speed for? What did you need third Gen sped for? What do you need fourth Gen speed for?
This is a story as old as PCs — components get faster with time and then games and design software use that increased speed. You can't sit on the shore and order the tide to turn back.

All you can say truthfully is that you don't care. Any statement beyond that is without any basis in fact.

Okay we get Micro Center has good deals but it really pisses me off they are only in store pick up. Closest we have is like 500 miles. Either open one store in each state or sell online.

Ever think their business model which allows them to sell bundles at these prices wouldn't work if they shipped everything? If you go to their Boston store for example, it's always jam packed with people since it's right next to some of the best universities in the country. More people than you see in 5 best buys these days. They aren't crying because they can't ship you stuff.

Not sure if I should trade in my 13700k bundle for this. This is 100 more than my 13700k bundle.

For the gains? It all depends. I mostly game on my 13700k, my wife needs a new setup and I was thinking on getting the 14700k for me and giver her mind but she does autocar and rendering for what its worth, she will benefits of it not me. I don't think I will see a big "improve ".

So in your case if you don't need to setup another machine stay with 13700k for now.

I wonder if this mobo is updated for 14 series processors out of the box. How long have these been sitting on microcenter shelves?

That's fair, if the OP he's responding to was talking about thermal paste specifically, but this is still something important to be said.

People DO apply it incorrectly and ruin their hardware.

Sound advice in my opinion. Many people have made liquid metal sound wonderful, and it is. However, if you don't know what you're doing, you'll quickly make a mess of all your expensive components.
