Got my order for 2 phones delivered today, and got them both activated to start the countdown clock on the unlock. For anyone who bought one just to activate for the one-month plan you purchased and unlock, the easiest way is the automated phone service (the online process wasn't working for me):

1) 1-877-430-2355
2) Press 2 to Activate Device
3) Press 2 for a New Number
4) Follow voice prompt to enter IMEI, ZIP code, create PIN, etc. When asked by the prompt if you want to "add to an existing account", say "No". If you purchased a plan with the phone, it will recognize this and automatically activate the SIM for the plan.

When the voice prompt tells you to power on the device, the instructions were incomplete and unclear. If you've never activated a phone before here are the steps:

1) Attached to the box for your phone is the associated SIM card in a pouch; remove and punch out the nano-SIM.
2) Using the SIM tool in the iPhone box (or a small paperclip), pop out your SIM card tray and insert the nano-SIM.
3) Re-insert the SIM tray into the iPhone and power on the phone.
4) Go through the setup process; I recommend connecting to WiFi when prompted to make things go faster.
5) Your phone should be activated within a few minutes of being powered on with the SIM inserted, assuming you went through all the steps in the automated phone activation.
So no luck at Tega Cay, SC Walmart. They did have at least 2 in stock. The guy was nice looking into it for 30 mins or so. He finally found out the Walmart had to have the WARP system for in-store phone activation so call up or local Walmart to ask if they have that. He mentioned the store in Rock Hill, SC on Dave Wylie had the WARP system.

I'm not going to waste my time going there, but thought I'd help others. Be sure to call the local Walmart you are going to, ask if they have the phone in stock (both stores said online they didn't have stock, but both stores did have them in stock) and ask if they have the WARP system for activation. Good luck everyone.
Yes done it three times now. Use it a few times with the straighttalk network for a few days first though. Text, call, browse then 61 days later unlocked.

Mine both unlocked today, 1 day early vs text. Likely the 31 day December. I left the SIM card in, but did the full iPhone reset. No SIM Restrictions after the reboots.
From what I've seen, the text reply always seems to indicate 60 days from whatever the activation date is, regardless of number of days in the months involved and I'm pretty sure I've seen day 59 unlocks both ways also. I've been under the impression that the day 59 unlock that many see is because they count the activation day as day 1 for plan purposes, as opposed to the following day, as you'd normally count days. You'll also see this when you first activate a new plan, as it immediately says "29 days left" as soon as activated. However the text reply uses the more typical way of counting days (I usually verify by asking Google "what day is 60 days from 1/24 or whatever day may be the case). And it would also kind of make sense to give an extra day in counting the unlock day like that to err on the safe side. Just spitballing though … it's hard to be certain of anything with them since it can vary and run a few days late sometimes as well.

Inserted the $4.99 TextNow sim and it works. Free calls and texting, no data though.

That's cool! How did you manage to activate them? This would be good information for the next time around.

I guess they were activated at the store after payment because I tried the SIM cards in a different phone and they had no value and asked me to refill but did have phone numbers attached to the sims. Guess I could've ported them out for free phone promos. Oh well.

Using textnow sim I noticed there's a slight delay when initiating calls or text. But since it's through the app rather than directly I guess that's expected. still a really good value for a new budget iphone that will continue to get updates

Yeah, the delay is likely due to running through their free app.

The speed / performance of the phone itself is on par with the 13 Pro Max for most basic uses … https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEDhR7adPsw

When service was on, I texted, got "Great news!!! Your device will be automatically unlocked on 02-02-2024" . I didn't see count down.

Now, February 5, service is off, phone settings still showing locked.
I texted, got "Great news!!! Your device is already unlocked."

update: I switched at&t sim card, unlocked now

Unlock worked on the date from the unlock text. Took sim card out, put in a different sim card, and the status went from locked to unlock.
Maybe someone in the store activate it for you when you bought it

The phone IMEIs were "activated" on the ST network at time purchase. Some users had questioned whether that was sufficient for getting the phone unlocked or if it required the phone itself to be physically activated. Bottom line is that physical activation of the phone is not needed for the unlock. I also got a few of these phones that unlocked while still sealed in the box.

Can confirm. The two phones that I never opened show up on Sickw as unlocked.

First off I'm going to rep you again slysol for all of the help you've given to this community. My question is: from everything we learned (so I know going forward) If I bought these online instead of in person at a store, exactly what method should I use to activate them, step by step to best ensure my chances of unlocking without opening?

When you activate, you can either use the web portal or do it through their phone system. I tend to prefer the web portal and that usually works fine if you're activating through the same company you purchased the phone from. However, some have reported that the phone method can sometimes work even when the web version gives errors. The errors that would sometimes pop up were usually when activating a non-Tracfone variant on Tracfone. However, I think that the online deals generally require a plan purchase with the phone these days, so that's probably not a concern. When you go to activate the phone through the website, you want to make sure to choose "new phone" rather than "bring your own". That's another key part to make sure that it unlocks. The rest of the process is pretty straightforward and just asks you to enter your IMEI, etc and set up your account info if you haven't already done it. .

Anyway, once you activate the phone on their end, you'll want to verify that the correct IMEI for your phone shows up as "active" on your account and is assigned a phone number. As long as that happens, the unlock should be triggered, even if the phone itself has not been touched. Note that it can sometimes take a little while for it to show as active on their end, so just give it a little while if you complete the process but don't see it showing as active yet.

Hello, in December, I purchased a Se3 and a $35 plan at Walmart. I intended it as a gift for my niece in China, so I didn't open the packaging until a couple of days ago when I flew to China and gave it to her. However, according to my niece, it still hasn't been unlocked, and there's a constant activation prompt. What should I do now?
