For long CPU intensive tasks, yes. For normal laptop use, no.

It's cheap, but it's also a 4+ year old model with overheating issues. But it's cheap. So I might buy one
I bought a dell latitude 5491 i5 8400H about 15 months ago. I added 8 gb ram. It looked like it was brand new and has run very well. I paid about 260.00 from dell refurb.

I would buy another one but I don't believe there was any changes to the 9th generation i5 9400H.

Anybody know if these can be upgraded to Windows 11? I know the processor qualifies since it's a 9th gen, but does it have TPM capabilities?
The Latitude 5401 has been 'tested for windows 11' according to Dell, and the CPU is on the MS officially supported list, so it would seem all the boxes are checked. I dont own one personally to say for sure though.

I'm running 11 on mine. You can also create a bootable flash drive with RUFUS to remove the TPM and ram requirements. I've been running 11 on a 6600k with 4 gigs of ram with no problems at all.

Been waiting for another refurb deal, but with Black Friday coming, why not get a brand new laptop for $280 vs a 3 year old refurb?

1 year ago I was looking for two laptops and did the mistake of buying them from Dell. Two different models . One high end one lower end. It was a big mistake. I had many different laptops before. I still have my super old Sony and it has been great. Also a MacBook which has a few minor problem. They lasted a long time. I also tried Thinkpad which I think has the second place in quality after these though has problem with screen and keyboard after 1 to 2 years. Hp and Toshiba were garbage . Both had to change mother board multiple times . After all my last year experience proved to me that Dell is as garbage as everyone says and is like HP . Both of my laptop have stupid touchpad problem which is known for Dell laptops if you search. The high end one hinge is loose and I started to use glue and tape to keep in place. And this all started after a few months. Do yourself a favor and avoid them . Also it rains the battery even if it is off like crazy that I have not seen in other laptops. Warranty is a joke . It is a design flaw and replacing parts with same flaw does not fix it

I bought a refurbished 5490 a few months back to have a cheap extra laptop on hand. I only paid $152.42 including RI sales tax and shipping. I upgraded the ram to 16gb and the m.2 to a P31. It is working well for what it is but the display is far from great. It is only 1366 x 768 resolution. This is at least 1080p and supposedly IPS. It should be a decent upgrade from the 5490 I imagine?

Sorry to hear about your bad experience but please share specific details about the ones you bought that gave you so much grief. Dell makes many model lines... from low end to high end... and performance and experiences can vary significantly. Personally I've had great experiences with Dell... and I've had quite a few of them. I currently have a nine year old XPS desktop that has been trouble free and is still chugging along, a one year old Inspiron desktop, and a Latitude 7400 I purchased from Dell Refurbished earlier this year on a 50% off offer similar to this one. And I made the decision to purchase the Latitude after having five employer provided Latitude laptops over the past sixteen years that never gave me any issues.

Is the screen that bad? I would think 1080p and IPS it would be decent?

Do you find the screen to be okay? I mean as far as color, contrast, brightness, etc? I'm thinking of buying one to replace my old Latitude 7480 with a 6th Gen i7. No tax where I live so it's a pretty good deal as long as the screen is good.
