I'm not seeing any reviews from anyone but the company itself and one Torsten Jakob. Has anyone actually played these? Most instruments on the site are showing as out of stock, which often happens when there was never any stock to begin with.

If you click on the product itself you can see the reviews . The out of stock are new products due before black friday. It's a newer company of about 2 years so there isnt alot of reviews . Ther's a few e bay reviews as well

Tease is a small hands-on company. I would definitely trust their guitars and them over Monoprice.

Thanks I just purchased the S-T-Artic White and added the 2 watt speaker and Ernie Ball regular strings (green bag) . Everything came out to around $135 with the promo code. I am curious, if I didn't add the strings, what strings would have came with the Tease Guitar. I may have bought the same strings that suppose to come with. I am very new to guitars and have no idea what I got myself into. I was hoping that maybe they will still add the old strings with my purchase for future repairs? Thank you for chiming in.

I'm sure @TorstenJakob can better explain. I suggest also sending them a message with what you shared here.

In the absence of trusted reviews for Tease, I'd say neither, unless the guitar is a gift given by someone who knows how to adjust a guitar beforehand.

The reviews on the Jet guitars from trusted sources have been good. I'd look there or at a secondhand Squier Classic Vibe that has already had a setup and addressed any fret sprout or sharp edges. (I always prefer secondhand guitars anyway, as the issues are sorted out before I get it.)

Guitar is hard enough without instrument problems.

Then again, most people post online when something negative happens, not when everything is fine. Every company starts somewhere, so knocking them simply because you aren't familiar with them isn't helpful.

I'm not knocking them. They're just a complete unknown. Every unknown and "Amazon guitar" brand sings the praises of their own instruments, but those who buy them on the basis of price are doing so in the hope of getting an instrument of a quality better than what they're paying for. Sometimes that happens, and sometimes not.

Most such new brands try to get their gear into the hands of reviewers. Heck, Amazon even as a dedicated Vine program to encourage this.

Slickdeals won't let you post a deal for products sold on Amazon with sellers having with too few ratings. (This prevents posting EART guitar deals, even though theirs are really nice.) It will however let you post deals from other completely unknown sites, which is kind of... Special.

In any event, this Tease brand is simply unknown.

In 1977, there was someone named Dean Zelinsky who was an unknown. Less than 5 years later, some of the biggest rockers of the era were ditching the known brands for Dean Guitars.
I don't discount a brand simply because it's unknown, as I may miss out on a genuine gem. I will make a decision based on positive or negative reviews and in the absence of those, do my research and decide if it's worth trying based on the information available.

Honest question: In the absence of reviews(*), what research can you do to determine if it's a decent instrument? I'd look closely at photos of fret ends, but the photos are never good enough. Fret sprout and sharp fret ends are the most common problems on the cheap guitars, which is why I think it's the first thing to check. High frets aren't detectable without a fret rocker or actually playing the instrument. I don't know how you see the quality of the electronics, or the finish. I assume a $20 setup probably doesn't pay super close attention, but you'd get something with at least a little truss rod relief.

It's cheap enough to buy and try, although you'll be out the return shipping if it needs to go back, which I'd expect to run between $15 and $25.

I'm really NOT trying to be snarky. But admit it: the appeal of these guitars, which are all copies of Fender models (albeit with a 12" fretboard radius, which is nice to see if you prefer a bit flatter fretboard), is why people would buy them. Copies from EART, Jet, Tradition, Squier, and others are much more known quantities.

(*) Reviews on the site could come from anywhere. They might even be completely fake in their entirety.

Unbranded strings are likely usable, but not terrific. At least the branded strings allow you to buy them again if you like them or to skip them if you don't. For a new player get the 9-42 Ernie Ball Super Slinky ones. Easy to fret and good quality. I like them about as much as D'addario.

However, strings are a consumable. They corrode, although coated strings (Elixir, D'addario XS) do so at a MUCH slower rate (but 3-5x the price of uncoated). For a beginner, I'd stick with mainstream uncoated strings ($4-$10 per pack of 6) until you get a sense of what weights and brands you like.

I crack up when people sell a used guitar and say things like "one string is missing" as though that's a defect. If they were smart, they'd put a fresh set of a decent brand on there so that a purchaser could at least try it out. With strings missing (and the others corroded), it's kind of hard to play and get a real feel for the instrument.

I humbly share that I feel an advantage is my training and experience as a paralegal, with my specialty being locating defendants and background information. If I choose, which I generally don't, I could research a company down to the owner's home address and personal phone number. It provides much insight into a product and what's behind it.

Then there's the product itself. Guitars are a weak point for me, because I'm far from an expert. I understand enough though, that if I have the specifications, such as woods, hardware, etc., I can research whether it's on par with other guitars at the price point, above or below. This helps me determine whether the expectation is worth the investment.

Personally, out of the brands that you mentioned, I would only consider Squier a known trustworthy company and brand.

I'm sure you're already aware that regardless of whether it's a well known brand or an off-brand, a $1,000 guitar or a $100 guitar, one really doesn't know if it's the right guitar for them, until they have it in their hands. Therefore, buying any guitar online is a gamble, some simply have better odds than others.

You can also buy a guitar and not need to do anything aside from tuning it (and I've heard of guitars magically arriving in-tune before, too!) Peace

I was worried about playability issues when I bought my Squier last year, and it turned out pretty well. The Fender I bought this year has been peachy as well.

I was a little surprised tbh. The guitars I've picked up in store (admittedly only a couple) have had higher action than the ones I bought online lol.
