"I am most grateful for two things: that I was born in North Korea, and that I escaped from North Korea." - Yeonmi Park
"One of the most harrowing stories I have ever heard - and one of the most inspiring." - The Bookseller
"Park's remarkable and inspiring story shines a light on a country whose inhabitants live in misery beyond comprehension. Park's important memoir showcases the strength of the human spirit and one young woman's incredible determination to never be hungry again." —Publishers Weekly
In
In Order to Live, Yeonmi Park shines a light not just into the darkest corners of life in North Korea, describing the deprivation and deception she endured and which millions of North Korean people continue to endure to this day, but also onto her own most painful and difficult memories. She tells with bravery and dignity for the first time the story of how she and her mother were betrayed and sold into sexual slavery in China and forced to suffer terrible psychological and physical hardship before they finally made their way to Seoul, South Korea—and to freedom.
Park confronts her past with a startling resilience. In spite of everything, she has never stopped being proud of where she is from, and never stopped striving for a better life. Indeed, today she is a human rights activist working determinedly to bring attention to the oppression taking place in her home country. Park's testimony is heartbreaking and unimaginable, but never without hope. This is the human spirit at its most indomitable.

Got a strong suspicion that this lady is tall tale teller. Maybe a even a grifter.

Whatever might be true of her past, this book should be treated as largely fiction.
Then again, for some of you this will be the perfect book.

I don't think it's their fault, it's the literary agents/publishers who are to blame. An honest person writes a book and tries to sell it to make money, the agent or the publisher comes back and says, "I love your book, but I feel it would sell more if we included, this, this and that..."
I had an English class in college with a lot of rich kids. A lot of their essays HIGHLY resembled Hollywood scripts. There's a certain formula. Talking about the movies aimed towards teens and college kids showing rich people living it up.
This doesn't make sense. Why escape from a place that you are grateful to be born in?! This book is probably going to make my head hurt trying to make sense of senseless stuff,

Proof? Source? Evidence? Can't just make statements like that without literally anything supporting or even explaining it. I'm curious!
It's loosely based on prior coverage and questions asked about her that did not line up. She came on the air and clarified some of these things but people will think what they think and given how the world and it's inhabitants are today...I can understand the cynicism. The thing is we like to place high standards on "regular" people but never to politicians that ruin your way of life. Like you can't fathom this lady lying to you but it's ok for Faucci and the government to act without impunity. But yeah...it's better to protect your $2 on Amazon. 👍
She makes a living by sharing sensational stories in media. Her own stories change and she is not credible.
