If you haven't been keeping up, Sony just raised their PSN prices a crazy amount.
Reminder to PS5 owners, Sony removed ability to save game data to USB. Only backup available is through PSN. You can lose hundreds of hours of game play. Ask me how I know.
I remember when you could get PSN and Live for $30 year.

They better bring back the 50% off deal.

I got about 50 days left and I don't plan on renewing otherwise.

Man I'm not happy about the price going up. But $160 / yr (+ my local tax rate 6.75%) so $171 pretty much. That's $14.25/month? I'm coming from a World of Warcraft sub for years on end being $15/month so I might just be used to a subscription based game plan. But the access to the game libraries it has I feel it's still a good value.

Aaah all the comments on the way prices used to be. I agree it sucks how much things have raised. I have been a member of Slickdeals for over 16 years and I hate having to admit this is the new normal.
It used to be $25-$30 and I had it for 4 years. Once it ran out I never bothered renewing. The cloud saves are nice but the free games were not worth it. Hard pill to swallow that this is the new normal

Could you tell me who has better prices between target and Costco?
Costco regularly sell 4 $25 PSN cards for $90, sometimes there's sales, I haven't been paying attention to target too much, but lately I've been seeing full price but you get a gift card with it, I know they used to do percentages off but you usually had to but 2 cards at a time.

Where are the prices? Please post in description
The price varies on what you already have/ don't have and if you're upgrading a tier or not

Careful if you're hoarding these 12 month subscription codes. I bought a 12 month code via marketplace and upon activation, it only gave me 7 months. I am currently subbed to PS Plus Extras which expires January 2024. Upon activation, my new expiry date is 8/2024. Sneaky Sony!

I'm currently on hold with Sony and see if I can contest this and get 12 months and not 7 months. 9 minutes and counting…
An OG PSPlus prepaid card will give you either 12 months of Essential or the shortened time price equivalent of $80 worth of Extra (the middle tier with a changing catalog of add'l free games)

You can downgrade back to Essential to get the full 12 months from the basic PSPlus card.

I personally kept the truncated Extra to access and play a few dozen interesting games I wouldn't have otherwise paid to own (Stray, EDF: World Brothers, Midnight Fight Express, Balan Wonderworld, et al.), but the list is running dry, so this will be it for me. Once my Extra expires, I'll be a basic non-paying player of just the games I choose to buy. PSPlus member solid from 2016-2024.

Target is a $15 Target GC with $100 Playstation Card purchase. You can read about it here.

Costco sometimes has sells but I am no longer a member so I can't guarantee the price.
Costco has $100 worth of gift cards for $90

So if you are an existing Essential member and want to stay on Essential, none of this is valid?
Or can you still get an Essential "top-off" for what comes out to be $56 ($79.99-30% off=$56)

Does Sony report subscriber numbers in their earning reports? Are they up or down?
I subscribed every year until the ridiculous price hikes.
$20-$50 a year is reasonable, but above that is crazy.
These prices even with the discounts are criminal.
I wish I had never subscribed to begin with. $500 for what?
For a catalog of games I can't access on my PS3 or PS4 unless I pluck down another $80?
Had I watched discounts/sales over the years, I could have just bought them all physically for a similar amount. As an adult, I could pay these subscription prices if I wanted to, but as a kid I wouldn't have "ever" been able to afford this. What kid/teenager/college student has a random $70+ just to play games online? Doesn't this severely deplete the online userbase? Isn't that problematic for most multiplayer games? These price hikes are the #1 reason I haven't bought a PS5 or any additional games on my PS4. $500 for the system isn't appetizing knowing if I want to play online, that's another $100. If online play was included, I would have bought one on release day.... Am I in the minority? Or do others feel like the pricing is OK....
I don't know anything about the Xbox platform. Is the pricing similar?
On Switch, online is like $10 if you're in a family plan.... I've bought probably 50 games for that platform compared to the zero for Playstation/Xbox due to their online subscription pricing...
What originally got me devoted to PS3 vs Xbox360 was the free online play....
What's the hook for Sony over Microsoft now? Exclusives? They appear very limited....
I really think they've outpriced what the average gamer is willing to pay. Maybe I'm wrong....
If Nintendo releases something that plays games in 4K next year I think they have the opportunity to steal a ton of market share....

Hoping for a 50% off deal like the good 'ol days!
I just won't buy until at least 50% off these new inflated prices.

Could still get Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $7-8/month recently & I stacked the max 3 years. Giving PS Plus a time out.

Same, was Ps plus member since the beginning but it's not worth it for me right now. Just using gamepass for now and grabbing games on psn sales

I'm probably gonna let my subscription lapse. I can't believe it.
