Jeep is a terrible brand in terms of of reliability.

I send my oil to Blackstone Labs to have an analysis done after every oil change. Their experts told me that time is of no worry nowadays with modern oil. The only thing that matters is the mileage.

340k miles on my 03' Toyota Tacoma…my advise: just change the oil no matter what brand (within reason) every 5k or less because it doesn't cost that much to do so…this oil is made by Warren Oil Co btw

It's more important to change your oil at the correct intervals than the brand…. If you think Mobil is going to get more mileage from an oil change that's not the way to think about it… jm2cw

I use any good certified synthetic oil and change at 4500 to 5500 always…. Or 6 months whichever is first….

Of course I am driving a Toyota that could possibly get 500000 miles and will drive it until the wheels fall off…if you plan on trading in your car after 100000 it doesn't matter much in reality…

At this price I bought 5 good for 25k miles.
My 98 Toyota car service manual says 10,000 miles change oil interval for Full Synthetic Motor Oil, I never did change oil for less 10,000 miles interval, now the milage is over 400k miles. in Pandemic three years, I only changed oil once...
I have no idea someone needs change oil every 25k miles to make your vehicle dies quicker..

Overkill for most, probably. For me, I put so few miles on my vehicles that I'm literally only sending in a sample like every other year. I think it's around $35 now.
What are they testing for. There are machines you can buy to test your oil and if I recall, they aren't outrageously expensive. It might be cheaper to do that then spend the money every year.

Also, if you're spending $35/yr, you could prob just do another oil change and you'd probably be covered either way by halving the interval.

I change my oil when my maintenance minder tells me....usually around 8,000 miles but as my engine approaches 200,000 miles it's burning oil. So I check the oil levels every 1000 miles just to make sure.

Remember folks: oil is cheap, engines are not.

That's what they want you to think so you end buying a new car every 3/4years. Almost every mechanic recommends an oil change interval of no more that 5000 for full synthetic and 3000 for conventional if you want you engine to last any longer. It amazes me that people actually believe manufacturers recommendation that's bare minimum. They don't want you car to last longer because nobody will get a new car if it won't have any issues.
Talk about overkill. Your mechanics still living in the 90s?!

Yea, it's all about when you change the oil. When I had a 2012 Kia sorento, I used Walmart SuperTech every 3,000 miles. Then switched to full synthetic and changed at every 5,000 miles. My current Kia says 7,500 but I change at 5 because Kia pretty much lists everything as "severe" driving conditions.

Oil collects contaminants and combustion byproducts, which affects its lubricating properties (more friction). Obviously the more miles you drive, the more "other stuff" gets introduced in your oil. Oil also breaks down over time, but this is a lesser concern with synthetic oil.

The recommended oil change interval is a compromise between performance and service interval length. Nobody wants an economy car they have to service every 5000 miles. At the same time, manufacturers don't want a reputation for engines that don't last, due to wear caused by increased friction from oil that is used for too long.

And I don't think it's a good idea to assume there is nefarious intent on behalf of the carmakers. Think about it: if your X brand car needs a new engine because you didn't change the oil frequently enough, what are the chances you'll buy X brand again? It's in the manufacturer's best interest to make their cars more reliable than the next guy.

There are literally videos on youtube by certified mechanics shops who had worked in dealerships before ripping apart engines and showing the difference between a same car who had gone through oil changes 5000 vs 10000 and and telling all the issues that the 10000 one is having. If someone car has gone 500k with 10k oil change intervals doesn't mean that's good for the engine.

This is very true. It's better to use the cheapest brand of regular oil every 3000 miles than using the brand name synthetic oil every 10000 miles.

Just go by what is stated in your vehicle's owner's manual. My Jeep tells me to use full synthetic and change it once a year or at 10,000 miles. I trust the engineers who build the vehicle more than anyone else.
Engineering is not the only consideration on specifications and can often be a compromise. Cost of ownership (routine maintenance), fuel economy and production costs can have a much higher factor in those final decisions. It is not uncommon for a manufacturer to change oil specs on a car 2 years later with the same engine and back date compatibility with previous years. So which oil weight and change interval is better? The original one or the newer one? That being said, too many factors and internet scientists can't predict that either and your uncles friends cousin doesn't count as a good source. Only way is to sample and send out to a lab and see every so often. I gave up and settled on 5k or yearly of cheapest that month full synthetic.

I change once a year. I had 3k but heard chatter regarding the time elapsed once the oil is contaminated is a thing. The filter I can see being a problem for those that run 10k between changes regardless of mfg. claims...

There are SO many opinions on when to change your oil, but realistically it depends on many variables. If you are driving a hybrid vehicle than the engine isn't running the entire time, so changing it at 5k miles is overkill unless that's what you prefer. In the end, it's your money...
