My kid is also getting into it, here's what I've learned so far - going rate for "a good deal" is under $3 a pack (depending on set), which clearly this is garbage for. So you'll have to know if the playmat and other collectibles that aren't necessary is worth it to you.

The other thing is ordering off amazon / ebay is a complete crapshoot, sometimes you'll get something someone obviously returned and took stuff out of. Almost always better if you can buy it at a retail location, or at least from a B&M seller like Best Buy, Target, Costco, etc.
Don't. Buy. Pokemon. Cards. From. Amazon..... You may regret it. Possibility of a reseal or just returned and reshipped with open packs is the highest chance when getting them from Amazon.
If your kids are specifically interested in the original Pokemon, then the 151 set is ideal imo. This specific box set is not the best value (as Skwer stated), but I find the 151 cards to be hard to come by, at least in my area. So far, the best deal I've found was for the Snorlax ETB (Elite Trainer Box) for $43.99, but that deal is over now.

I'd recommend just looking up the artwork for each Pokemon card set with your kids (Paldea Evolved, Paradox Rift, etc) and seeing which cards they find the coolest/most desirable. Then find the best deals for packs in that specific set!

Hope that helps a bit

I'm looking to get the kids Pokemon cards, but I don't know enough about it to know whether this is a good deal, or something they would want. Could anybody enlighten me?

For me personally, I've found a similar level of quality between all retailers that I've purchased from. I have cards from multiple Targets & Best Buys, as well as Amazon. All of them have fairly bent cards and some of them have centering issues, too. In my experience, it seems to be more dependent on the individual pack quality, rather than the retailer themselves. YMMV, as always!

Good deal for the 151 as they go for at least $5 a pack $80 for 16 packs in comparison to the new set like Paradox Rift closer to the $3 mark. The Promos are around $5-$10 each so this is a good deal. HOWEVER, Tik Tom marketplace has these around the same price plus addition 20%-30% off coupons making them in the $70 range for a better deal

Great price 98% of the year - but tiktok can be a bit cheaper, as long as you do your research on the shop.

Anyway to tell if the pack has been opened and returned? Planning to grab this but I'm hesitant due to that.

Just to add to this, we do the same with my kids, but instead of packs, we buy individual cards from the TCGplayer marketplace for a fraction of the cost of packs.
