That model was tempting, but is there updates in budget projectors since the 6 years the model was released that make it not worth it? In my mind, bluetooth and some auto focus features?

I can't answer that but I guess when you buy one it's really what you're going to do with it. An outdoor movie night is a reason to buy one like this. But if it's going to be used for your main viewing I would go with a more expensive model.

What do you recommend for a basement movie setup? I have a 720p projector still going strong just not the cleanest picture.

Is the ViewSonic PA503X 3600 a better deal at $10 less?

Generally basements are best for home theater setups, depending on the home you can get better light control, as well as separating the loud noises from the main part of the home more.
