Looks like Maps.Me is $33 a year to download more than 10 maps at once and get hiking trails.
Believe that's new, but you can download the maps you want/need and then delete when you no longer need them (travel). The average state is 3 or less maps so 10 maps can cover multiple states for most peoples use. California has the most maps at 12, so you can cover just about the entire state for free.
I've been using it for years and never once had more than 5 maps at a time and that's only cause I forgot to delete the maps when I was no longer in that state.
My subscription expired today and I was able to renew it with the coupon code for $17.99.
Also can you still "navigate" and record your trail with the free version i.e. it records your miles and saves the exact route you take on a selected route?
