Is there a difference between the one with the metal kickstand that is on OP's link versus the described "newer" model with the black kickstand?

the comments seem to indicate that the black kickstand is made of plastic. So you can have a plastic or metal kickstand

I got one and returned it. The cable was too stiff and it gets too hot for my comfort. My suggestion is just to wait for the official Apple one to go on sale and get that instead.

Purchased this back on Oct 10th when it was the same $20 price. I have the one with the metal kick stand. Works as it should, never got hot, slightly warm if anything, charges like normal. Would buy again if I ever needed another one.

I have both and if you feel that this gets too hot on your hands, the official magsafe puck will burn you at peak charging speed (though for me, it's not hot). I feel that this Belkin dissipates the heat better because it's thick and because of the material.

I agree that the cable is quite stiff BUT it also makes it durable. This Belkin one comes with an attached cable tie. And it runs longer than the magsafe puck so I can actually attach it to my phone even when I'm using it while lying in bed.
