For what it's worth, I buy my own oil (full synthetic) and filter when I see the oil deals here on Slickdeals. A good Mobil 1 filter at Walmart, or similar deal on eBay and you can make a very economical oil change. I have a local shop that will change my oil for $15 if I provide the oil and filter, no wait or appointment , just pull in and they do it. It would be worth asking around, or even asking a non-franchised quick change place if they will do it if you provide the oil and filter.

...And yet people balk at the price when we do the same for $40 at my shop (with a WIX filter!). Why? Because they all instantly compare prices to the Wal-Mart s-, I mean, pit crew price of $25 for an oil that is absolutely bottom-tier and a sad excuse they call a filter.

Moral of the story? At least try to call a few local shops to see if you can get a better price on your next oil change. Most are probably high, but there are still a few righteous shops out there hanging on for dear life watching while people grossly overpay for the most simple services elsewhere.

Slightly off topic, but IMO with labor prices the way they are now I think it's absolutely still worth changing your own oil if you are able to. I can change the oil in either of my cars with full synthetic (Supertech or Kirkland usually) and an OEM filter for under $25. Takes about 15 minutes if I'm working slowly. Ramps and a catch can will set you back about $60, then you're set for life.

Not an option for everyone to be sure, but it's maintenance almost anyone can handle if they have a place to work and the desire to save some money.

been using the valvoline near me for a decade or so now, no problems, the deal is always there. conventional is like their loss leader, not much profit there but they got the larger margins on the synthetic prices.

$30.25 today after coupon with added oil fee for 5.5qt.

definitely seemed like it took the longest ever today, hopefully just a one-off, 25 minutes compared to 13 minutes, the quickest i remember.

They change oil only by suction old and fill new, they don't change filter for the price of $90 even with coupon the said only applicable $110 package and left you $75+ of total with taxes and fees. If that to buy you 1 hour your worth of expertise(1-2 hour to do something else other than waiting Walmart or another better shops), go there to pay. Again oil filter change not included .

When I change my oil, I remove the drain plug and let it drip overnight. drip drip drip... until the last drop is out. This takes more than 2 hours and makes sure to get as much gunk out as possible with the oil. You cannot get this done in 15 mins. My Camry is now nearing 400K and counting... If you want your car to last, DIY service is best. Nobody cares more about your car than you do.

Amazon. Ramps make it easier but are not always required. Trucks and non-sporty sedans sit high enough. I also invested $15 into an oil drain valve, it's like a little tap and screws into the oil drain. Fast, no mess, and I don't need to fight a plug.
What drain valve are you using?

It's a scam. Local store charges around $75-90+ for blend. I found Midas for $30 + fees taxes $35 after coupon. They claimed the recommended 0-20 for my car is full synthetic so they gave me 5-20 because i asked for blend. Local stealerships charge $80-90+ for blend.

Not much of a deal when my local valvoline charges $102 for a 5 quart synthetic change! Just called them.
