Govee has the new version of its Govee H5043/H5058 WiFi Gateway + 4 Smart Water/Leak Sensor Alarms on sale for $45 with discount code 25OFF. The code works on all the models. It's cheaper than Amazon. Codes BOOM and SPLASH-CAD work on various items too.

I did a little bit of digging and found that if you hack part of the URL, you can find the various products that work with the 25OFF:
GoveeLife Smart Mini Double Button Switch
GoveeLife Wireless Mini Vibration Sensor
GoveeLife Door and Window Sensor
GoveeLife Bluetooth Hygrometer Thermometer H5104 (3 Pack)
GoveeLife Smart Thermo-Hygrometer (3 Pack) H5105

Thanks to member JFalc who shared the following:
"I believe some other differences between the new/old versions are that:
- Alexa/Google Assistant/IFTT are supported
- Range is way higher (197 ft vs. 1312 ft)
- Can connect via bluetooth
- Claims battery life has improved from 1 year to 2 years
- Can support up to 100 sensors instead of just 10"

for this price I'll stick with V1. V1 does connect to google assistant so not sure why it says that it doesn't. It's all backend services connected anyhow. The range is higher if you need but I don't need it that far. Just place the receiver in the center of all of your devices and it's fine. Batteries on v1 and v2 are both 2x AAA. So unless you need extended range it's prob cheaper to stick with v1. But if you need v2 this is a pretty good deal. V1 sensors go for around $5-6 per vs $11-12

Does the bridge support the V1's though?

This is $45 with 4 water sensors. What am I missing, are the 'smart detectors' something different/better that I (we) should wait for?

I believe that V1 didn't originally connect to Google and I remember reading that they added support for that (as well as Alexa) later. V1 works well as a water sensor but it is really annoying when the batteries start to go dead. I hope they've changed this for V2. I've actually got 9 V1 (Amazon had a really good deal on the hub + 3 sensor kit a few years ago) but have been too lazy to replace the batteries. I really should do that as these are really useful, especially when you go on vacation.

Any forensic studies to see what it sends outside of the LAN, especially via Google?

what happens that's annoying when batteries start to go dead? I've already replaced all my batteries for v1 units and I didn't seem to have any issues with it
