How does this compare to oatmeal, flavor-wise. I've never had grits.
Grits are super mild, usually people at least add butter, salt, and pepper, or cheese, or make red eye gravy with country ham. If memory serves the instant grits are pretty bad. If you want to try them, buy regular or "quick grits," cook them however the instructions say (or longer; they get more creamy the longer they are cooked) and have them one of the first two ways I mentioned. Plain grits to me are almost like mashed potatoes where you kinda need to add something. If you want to give them a fair shot skip the instant.

I like grits but I don't like them as savory dishes like these are. I like them with milk and brown sugar or fruit. I think cheese in grits must be an acquired taste because it makes me gagg.

Anyway, I've bought these before from Sam's Club [samsclub.com]. I like them.

Do you like them regular, creamy or al-dente?
