Other than being on sale, these are subpar as standalone knives. I understand you get the bit holder, but the primary function of this tool is as a blade. The steel isn't that great, quality is just below average all around. I would just get the Fastback Utility Knife or a better individual pocket knife and a Milwaukee Stubby Multi Bit Driver. Not trolling, just providing an alternative perspective.

They need to make this in all black and add a window breaker on the bottom and a seatbelt cutter.

Be warned, unless Milwaukee changed their design, the screwdriver bit falls out often. Check the reviews on their website about this model. https://www.milwaukeetool.com/Pro...48-22-1540

Maybe at $15. I got the box cutter version for $15 and can swap out the blades with no need to stop to sharpen.

Idk if I really like having the bulky screwdriver part on this. Seems a little gimmicky

Is it really rare for them to discount it for five bucks/20%?

The screwdriver is centered when you open it, so it's not awkward to use like some other brands. Surprisingly it's a great addition to the knife and I use it a lot more often than I anticipated.

That did change the design. Doesn't fall out on new models

There are bigger/chunkier knives out there WITHOUT the added utility of a bit driver.

It really depends on your needs/use cases - for many, the utility blade isn't the ideal tool for the job, especially if you need to cut rope regularly.

You should absolutely get a Milwaukee FASTBACK; but this is one product where they perfected it with Gen 1, and then it got progressively worse as they added more gimmicks.
  • Compact Folding Utility Knife ($10): Small, light, simple. Does one thing and does it perfectly. Buy this.
  • Folding Utility Knife with Blade Storage ($15): Thicker, longer, heavier. Cheaper materials. Screw that holds it together loosens over time, and spare blade door jams. Junk.
  • 5-In-1 or 6-In-1 ($20): Both huge, tons of gimmicks, all plastic, gimmicks work badly and the thing falls apart (screwdriver falls out, opens itself, screw hole strips out, belt clip pulls off, etc). Even worse.
So, 100% go buy a FASTBACK, and buy one today before they change/ruin the design. But only buy the $10 "Folding Utility Knife" variant, it is a favorite for a reason. You aren't getting more for spending more, in fact you're getting less, much much less. Milwaukee has a good rep for power tools, and a poor rep for hand-tools, and this nonsense is why.

Hopefully we'll see a "Made in the US" FASTBACK that aims for high quality following the simple "Compact Folding Utility Knife" design in the future.
