An additional thing to consider. Around Christmas time I make sure to get as many of my purchases with no-rush shipping as possible. We don't stream Amazon videos that often and are not really app buying people. Ordinarily no rush credits would expire on us but when this deal rolls around each year, the non-gift card version is also discounted but you can apply your no-rush credits to it.

In a case like mine, the better deal is to forego the $10 gift card and instead use your Amazon no-rush credit bonus. Mine this year was $27 which means I was able to order Home and Business for $51 after tax.

FYI

Hi there,

We're reaching out to our TurboTax Desktop customers to share an important change to how you'll install and activate your software this upcoming 2023 tax season.

To install and activate TurboTax 2023 on your computer, you'll be prompted to sign in to your existing Intuit Account (or create an account if you don't already have one) before entering your license code. The software won't install unless you sign in to your Intuit Account online. Importantly, your product license code can only be associated with one Intuit Account.

Your license code will then be stored in your Intuit Account, should you need to install the software again.

Wait why does it say on box "Federal+State" but in tiny tiny print below on product page, "State e-file sold separately"

So we have to pony up MORE money ($25) to e-file a State Return? Seems like this product should be adequate 🤔
It's a bit annoying but the program will calculate your state taxes but it will charge you a fee to upload them electronically unless you live in a state where efiling is free by law (for example New York).

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community...92#M127450

But you can often still manually type in the state tax results from TurboTax on your state's website and submit there.

That's how I have done it as I don't want to pay for something which should be standard and in everybody's interest in 2023 (and in 2022, 2021....).

So does this mean no sharing? Usually I will share the software with my brother and we will install on two different machines. This year it looks like it will save info to one account. If I share, my brother will have access to my returns.

I've been reading thru a Turbotax thread on Intuit's forums that's spanned the past couple years (https://ttlc.intuit.com/community.../00/755501 [intuit.com]). It seems that in order to be able to install Turbotax on both PC and Macs, it's necessary to buy the CD version (which contains the installation files for both platforms) as the download version is platform specific and people ran into a lot of hassle with Intuit trying to get the installation files for a different platform than the one they first installed on.

Can anyone confirm the same on the download version for this year?

--

So I went ahead and took the plunge to buy the download version. This makes a zip file available to download (TurboTax_Deluxe_2023_Tax_Software_Federal__State_Tax_Return_Amazon_Exclusive_PC-Mac_Download.zip). The zip file contains two files: Windows_PC_TurboTax_Download.exe, Mac_TurboTax_Download.dmg. So it looks like there won't be any issue to install on both a PC and Mac.
Not a Mac user here but thanks for going through that exercise and posting your result for the community.

It's clearly what they are trying to prevent. They have been more aggressive with this in the last five years, and this is just the next iteration. Before that, they didn't even have activation, and you could install it with the same serial number tons of times. Those days are very much in the past.

The license will also be registered to his account but he won't be able to download the software even though the button is available. It'll return an error and ask him to log in with the account that the key is originally registered to. If you have another method where he can get the software, he can use it as normal.

My no-rush credits did not apply when I checked out. This is probably because I'm no longer a Prime member?
I didn't see the fine print where it says I still have to be a Prime member to use no-rush credits.

For those that don't care about the $10 Amazon Gift Card it seems like Costco is including a $10 credit for one of these in-product add-ons: State E-file fees, additional state, or Audit Defense. https://www.costco.com/tax-prepar...d=TurboTax
Snagged the Cosco deal for the $10 in product credit. Thanks!

Warning for those who are not Prime members. Amazon is once again tacking on a shipping charge if you order the physical disc and gift card despite the fact that the order is over $35. (Technically, the gift card does not count toward the free shipping minimum but the graphic below says this order does qualify for free shipping.)

Last two times (last year and on Nov. 25 this year) if you added the downloadable version to your card along with the physical disc version, then removed the downloadable one, you were able to get free shipping if you were a non-Prime member. That trick doesn't work this time around.

Two years ago I had to call customer service before finalizing the order for the disc and gift card, and they were able to credit or remove the shipping charge.

Has anyone found a technique this year to remove the shipping charge from the cart for non-Prime members?

Edgar

Some states charge sales tax on digital transactions and others do not.
NJ will charge for digital downloads. Other states will not (e.g., FL)
Depends on your billing address for your credit card.

The Turbo Tax download or CD does not include the state return. When you install it, you then specify which state, and it is downloaded. If you bought the Federal + State, the state is free. If you didn't then you pay. Essentially, you download the same program.
