You can use Free Fillable Forms (https://www.irs.gov/e-file-provid...able-forms) - which is provided for free by the IRS with no income limits and free e-filing. I usually use TurboTax (free as long as you don't file) to check my numbers and to make sure i filled out everything correctly
Deluxe Desktop does stock transaction downloads you do not need premier desktop. Deluxe ONLINE version doesnt handle stocks and you need Premier ONLINE for stock transactions. Intuit does this on purpose to confuse people.

In a case like mine, the better deal is to forego the $10 gift card and instead use your Amazon no-rush credit bonus. Mine this year was $27 which means I was able to order Home and Business for $51 after tax.
Hi there,
We're reaching out to our TurboTax Desktop customers to share an important change to how you'll install and activate your software this upcoming 2023 tax season.
To install and activate TurboTax 2023 on your computer, you'll be prompted to sign in to your existing Intuit Account (or create an account if you don't already have one) before entering your license code. The software won't install unless you sign in to your Intuit Account online. Importantly, your product license code can only be associated with one Intuit Account.
Your license code will then be stored in your Intuit Account, should you need to install the software again.

There's audit protection, offers to upgrade to higher versions with confusing wording, etc. Regarding the latter, they clearly use confusing language to make it sound like you need the Premier edition for automatic downloading of investment information (I fell for this for years, but Deluxe works just fine; supposedly the more expensive version provides "assistance" in this area, but I've never noticed it). Also, almost any meaningful "support" you'll get from Intuit is from volunteers who help users troubleshoot on their forum. Finally, if you like to file early, beware that they've had many substantial updates to the software just prior to (and even after) April 15, 2023. Sometimes, this is the fault of Congress/I.R.S. delays in clarification, but it's often the fault of Intuit and the dozens of bugs in the monster it helped create.
And, for those that can stomach it, here's an oveview of reasons tax filing is so painful in the U.S.: Tax preparation in the United States - Wikipedia [wikipedia.org]. Combined with persistent under-staffing and under-funding for decades, the I.R.S. can barely (clearly, to prevent audits of the wealthy), "we, the people" end up covering those costs (one reference [cbpp.org]). Perhaps, worst of all, it has been shown that money put into IRS enforcement pays back tremendously well; it's one of the best performing investments the U.S. could possibly make (recent reference [taxfoundation.org]).
Are you saying that it will just not let you redownload the software on another account, but if you have the download already it will work on another account?

One change: This year, those of use who were migrated to Schwab per the acquisition will have to download from both institutions. I hope they make the process as simple as before, but I doubt they [Schwab] will consolidate the data so you only need one set of 1099 forms for filing.

I get the discounted TurboTax without having to buy the gift card, and as an added bonus I can use a gift card to pay, which you normally can't do as the original purchase includes a gift card.
I imagine this depends on the bank involved (I use a Chase Visa cc), but let me know if this works for you.
