This puts the Origin 20h about where it used to be a couple years back. It's a great first tube amp for someone wanting to take that next step, especially someone that uses a lot of pedals for their sound (it takes pedals well). Skip the matching cab though and go with something made of plywood with decent speakers. I recently gave mine to the kid when traded up to the SV20 and I picked up a used Peavey 2x12 with Greenbacks from Guitar Center ($300!) to go with it.

If you are considering the Marshall DSL1, im here to say that its a badass amp! The distortion channel has the classic Marshall tone of the TSL100, but in a lunchbox size. The clean channel is just ok, but who really cares right? We are here for the dirt!

yes. if the origin is closer in sound to old fender bassman and marshall superleads that were all similar, then I'd wager the origin has the nicest clean sound and more/louder clean headroom before breakup. Those bassman type sound heavenly clean, on the bassman I listened and thought it almost makes the electric sound liek an acoustic guitar

If you trust that ProAudioStar's open box items are actually new (my experience so far). You can save $50 and $60 off these prices respectively. $300 DSL1 & $370 Origin 20h

You can even get it NEW from PAS for $330 which is less than here.

Also to add, I've had countless people tell me buying Open Box from PAS has delivered New In Box product. I bought a NEW JVM205H a couple months back for like 60% off. No issues at all with my purchase. If you're looking for Marshall amps PAS has the deals right now!

but what you can't do is finance it over many months at 0 percent interest and no credit check, right? PeaceApplause

furthermore, zzounds will price match, making zzounds easily the better deal. However, I don't think they can equal the prices on open box items because they will not qualify for any pricematch. My pics from proaudiostar would be:

They can't price match new either. I tried to price match my JVM. They are lower than they're allowed to legally advertise. Supposedly that's why "open box" product is shipped New In Box from PAS. They're getting around MSRP requirements listing it open or used to clear inventory.

yeah the amp heads are pretty close in price between the stores and depending on how much other stuff you are getting, it may or may not make sense to buy from zzounds. Not sure about the warranty on open box, however they've got an awesome deal on a 50w head origin, and their origin combos are also a good price. Combo lovers should definintely check it out

They had the Studio Vintage 2x12 cabs and maybe some of the other U.K.-made ones for about $700 "open box". I considered it but the Peavey with Greenbacks was IMO a much better bang for buck. The SVs have those new 70W Celestion V-type V30-style speakers, which don't really match with the time period the SV is targeting to be honest. The JTM cab has 65W G12M Creambacks and probably would match better, and PAS has "used" ones for $680 right now.

be warned the DSL-1 only powers 16-ohm speakers. So, you can't pair this with the Monoprice 12" Celestion Vintage 30 cab for around $200.
